The unit is built up using laser cut layers from 4/6mm wood. The second layer from the front has a slightly smaller internal diameter which gives a lip for the 2mm opaque Acrylic part to bond to. On top of that, I'll sit the film slide then a laser cut piece of 1mm Acrylic with relevant sized cutout for the film will be slotted on top to hold it in place. That will leave a 1mm rebate which I can slot a clear piece of Acrylic into to cover the film and stop fingerprints.
I was originally thinking about embedding magnets into the front pieces to hold them in place but if the tolerances are kept tight they should just hold in with friction leaving the face completely flat. I may then need to use a small sucker to lift them off but that's better than having external fittings.
