no you havnt at all... thats exactly what ive been trying to express
We seem to be mixing two topics here. The first is with whether you should be able to take pictures and the second is what is then done with the pictures.
The primary topic is obviously the restriction on photography at events involving children. I have not seen a good case for not allowing parents to photograph these events. Parents who do not wish their children to be photographed or children who are 'at risk' should not participate in the event. Yes, its unfair for them but at least its unfair for a few rather than being unfair for the majority. We have bent continually as a society trying to accommodate the needs of all parts of the society but there has to be a point were we say no. Give and take? We do the giving and the minority do the taking.
With regard to subsequent use of the images and posting on the internet. The argument seems to run along the lines "But if we let you take pictures we don't know what you will do with them and you might even put them on the internet and then people would be able to see them!" It does not matter what I am going to do with them. I think the vast majority of people who take pictures at school events are doing so for their family's personal use. Some of them may put them onto Facebook. Who cares? A few more people in the world see your kids face. Reality check here - people see your kids every day
This is a bit like saying "Yes you can buy a car but we can't let you use it because some people speed and some people are really inconsiderate drivers. So, to avoid any possibility of poor driving we have decided that no one should be allowed to drive."
Anybody fancy setting up a an action group?
Parents Rebelling Against Total Stupidity
Uummhh maybe I need to rethink that oneBut that is how we are being treated.

All this paranoia started with the no win no fee lawyers, everything started the day the government allowed it, people involved in minor traffic accidents are now suing for whiplash at 5mph and everyone is scared of being sued so are protecting themselves by saying no

Wouldn't it be better to CRB check all parents

I think some of them should have to apply for a licence to have kids in the first place! Rather a lot of really bad stories about child abuse recently, two deaths in Harringay and that nasty piece of work in Dewsbury who drugged and imprisoned her own daughter. All family related which is DD's point here. The actual risk from anyone unrelated to the family and carring a dslr must be in the millions!
The stupidity of this is truly blinding. If someone really wants a pic of a fully clothed minor all they have to do is look on M&S website!
Honestly!
I dont blame the school principal, he probably wanted to avoid having undignified and angry scenes at a school nativity.
All it takes is for one parent to kick up a fuss about that man with a camera taking pictures of children and before you know it you have a lynching party!!
Unfortunately a vast majority of the public are both paranoid and ill informed when considering child protection issues.
I honestly despair at this :bang: What would be your reaction if you were in the play area with your child and there was a parent talking pictures of their child on the swings?? Would you be 'miffed' that your child may be in the background of the shot?? I can just imagine it now,
"come on johnny time to go home"
"why?"
"because that man is taking pictures of his own child"
Actually Jeangenie raises a valid point there again - size of camera
It only ever seems to be anyone with a DSLR that gets picked on doesn't it?
But if quality = Perv, then what about those P&S cameras with 8-10mp now, or even camera phones with up to 8mp I believe; surely they too are now high enough quality to be used by a Perv
In which case, using a small, easily hidden high mp camera/camera-phone must make you even more of a potential Perv for 'hiding' it so easily
Just a thought

If they are worried about pervs looking at the kids then why are they not insisting that every member of the audience is at least checked to Enhanced Disclosure status and not allowed into the event unless they can produce both the ED certificate and photograhic proof of who they are.
that would shock all those moaning parents out there
