The male has claspers on it's abdomen and if you hold one by it's wings it does everything to imitate stinging you, which of course it can't. If you didn't know that though, you would probably drop it just in case. Great mimicry.
I find those beetle really difficult - they are so reflective. I like the scorpion fly best - one of my favourite flies. I don't see it very often more's the pity.
