This looks like a brilliant lens for a crop sensor camera and for taking some specialist effects in nightclub photography.
Has anyone out there given this lens a go?

I've got one in my bag, but to be honest that's where it spends most of its time.
However, that isn't a reflection of its quality, either build or optical. Both are very good. I bought this when I had a D40x so had to manual focus with it but since I got my D7000 I'm able to use AF - it seems pretty quick.
The only reason it doesn't get used much is purely because it's a bit of a niche lens, very good at what it does and in the right environment its brilliant. Its the same with most fisheye lenses - bit of a one trick pony. The Tokina is one of the very few zoom fisheyes so I guess its a 2 trick.................

This lens is used extensively underwater and the general consensus is that it is sharp but can be a little prone to CA.
There's nothing else to compare it with other than canons own version (yours for £1200 guv), just be aware that you need to be very close to your subject when around the 10mm mark.
Gary, I think you're comparing it to the 11-16mm which is a rectilinear lens and completely different to the fisheye.

Oh ok. So this lens is a fish eye. Excuse my ignorance but what is rectilinear?
Wide, not fisheye. Not got the bulge that a fisheye does. Good rectiliniears will keep straight lines straight, cheaper ones will exhibit some distortion but not as much as fisheye.
