Beginner Tripod ballhead recommendation please

well I have just ordered a Gitzo tripod and now a bit skint if I'm honest

Can anyone recommend a ball head without breaking the bank

It must be able to hold Nikon d700 with 300 mm lens

Sirui k30x or k40x I reckon.

I have a k40x on my gitzo because it is a better fit to the base plate but it is more than enough ball head than I need and weighs more than the k30x.

I have the k20x on my sirui travel tripod and to be fair that is more than capable, just too small for a big gitzo.

Yes someone else has mentioned that make to me.
 
A few threads on this if you search.

All I would say is, the tripod head is just as important as the legs - more so in that it is the main user-interface, the bit you work with and that holds the camera. If that's the 300/2.8 you have, then you're probably in gimbal territory.
