Hello all,

I'm looking for people with undeveloped rolls of film that have been shot for a potential television programme (UK based).

Have a rummage in the cellar/loft and see what you might stumble upon!

Participants will have undeveloped rolls of film. They may or may not remember what was shot on the film. Ideally, this would be 10+ years old.

If anybody fits the bill, please could you get in touch with me to discuss further?

This is an exciting project to help show off wonderful, old-school photography and the captivating stories behind each photo.

My email is tash.mclintock@hotmail.co.uk

Many thanks,

Tasha

Welcome to the forum. Joined just to post this? Could you give more details as a hotmail address doesn't inspire confidence.

I have exactly such a roll of film which I have been meaning to develop for ages. It must be at least 15 years old, but, like Byker, I would like to know a bit more about it and something other than a hotmail address before letting go of possible photos of my late mother.

You could ask in the Film and Conventional section of the forum, and see if anyone has any advice about getting it sorted for you... the regulars in there often get rolls of film in old second hand cameras they buy, and some have become quite adept at rescuing films that have been "parked up" for up to 20-30 years or more

I was just going to take it to the local lab, if I ever remember. If that is a bad plan I will definitely enquirer further; thank you.

A developing story. How will it turn out? Will we be all left in a fog? Or are there latent evil intensions afoot...

You'll be offering appropriate splash fees in line with the BBC Library Rate Card, won't you?

Because if it's for 'credit' or 'exposure' I suggest that you jog on. After all, you get paid...

It feels a little like the TV news and weather. Submit your photos for a name mention, rather than pay.

It's slightly tempting to contact her through LinkedIn to remember to come back, but it's probably not worth the electrons needed to do it.

Her name/email is now more searchable, as her post now comes up in searches.

At the end of our holiday last week we were clearing out the hire car - checking all the door pockets and storage cubbyholes to ensure we hadn't left anything behind - and we found a roll of Fujicolor Superia 35mm print film in one of the less accessible recesses. It was presumably left there by an earlier hirer of the same car, and the film is fully rewound into the canister so presumably it has been exposed.

My plan is to get the photos processed and then, if there's anything that looks like it might have any value to its owners, try to track the owners down via social media.

I just hope I'm not paying £7.99 to be the victim of a practical joke a la Dave Gorman.

Keep us posted Stewart, just out of curiosity (y)

Hello,

Absolutely, I would never ask you just to send photos to me! It would be great to chat this through on the phone if you have a spare 5/10 minutes? I can email you my number or visa versa. Is there a private messaging function on this forum at all?

Thanks,

Tasha

Yes - click on the recipients name in this thread and then select 'start a conversation'.

Good to see you came back, and didn't just throw out a net & wander off (not an unusual practice in forums)

Hello,

I'm really sorry I haven't received an email. Did it have an attachment? That could be why?

Thanks,

Tasha

Seeing as you ARE back, perhaps you could answer one or two of the questions posed you earlier in the thread...

I'm particularly interested in the answer to this one...

Most forums notify via email when you get a response so I didn't think anyone had responded! Good to see that this forum is very active. Thanks for your help!

Tash

Hi,

As it stands, the idea hasn't even been commissioned by a channel. I'm currently in the process of seeing if it's even doable first (I.e if there are enough people out there with undeveloped film willing to participate).

Until it's commissioned I couldn't comment on that I'm afraid!

I suspect there's definitely enough people with old film lying around in cameras.. If you're really stumped, a phone call to *****, ****** ********, ******* ***** ********** or any of the other high street retailers of used cameras should produce a few bucketfuls of 10+ year old anonymous cameras with film still loaded.

You could discuss with us in principal whether it would be normal for True North Productions Ltd to pay participants, or whether your employer normally expects contributors to work for Exposure Dollars.

Tash, if you're puzzled at the relative hostility of comments here, it's because many here make their living from photography or invest heavily in equipment, and are then offered nothing more than a name credit at best for use of their images. Many relatively high profile businesses do this, including TV companies. If this was likely to be the intended approach of True North Productions Ltd then you're probably best off dropping this particular forum as a source of material, although you might find a couple of people who don't mindbeing used like that.

Toni, I think you may underestimate just sheer dislike of cheap tv programmes exploiting the general public for their emotions. You know with tv these days it's going to be about finding the person with undeveloped film most likely to cry at the photo of their second to last house front door.

I don't have a TV and haven't owned one since '81. However I do understand - someone I knew well went on Dragons Den with their business a few years back, and because they were professional, level-headed and intelligent got about 45sec air time compared to the dimwits that blubbed on camera. They were also less than impressed at the rapacious nature of the contract that went with any investment that a business might receive, and could never have accepted an investment on those terms.

Hello,

This wouldn't be a production made by True North Productions. I not longer work for them. This is currently an independent production.

Thanks,

Tasha

Hi Tash, no the e-mail did not have any attachments, so could you please confirm that you respond to ALL your e-mails, and if so what is the time-scale.
I would really like an answer to the question that I asked you.

Hello,

I responded this morning so you should have my response.

Thanks

Tasha

Hello,

This is not a production for True North. This is currently being developed independently.

Thanks a lot,

Tasha

well, as the OP has asked for her account to be closed (happy to accomodate that request) , and this thread to be removed (not a chance in hell of that happening) I'm guessing that the independent production is not going to happen...

just hope nobody sent rolls of film and ended up losing potentially valuable photographs from this time waster.

Just thinking, I'm sure I've seen somewhere that want you to send your undeveloped film for something like this. I'll see if I can find it to compare.

ETA ah, here it is https://www.36exp.org/
Not quite the same but it came to mind when I saw the OP

I'm pretty sure there's a service somewhere that specialises in processing film exposed a long time ago. Should be able to find it with a search as there's a thread somewhere. I remember it being expensive and slow, and I didn't use it, then regretted it after the roll of 120 I got processed by Peak only had one faint ghost image (not their fault, this was from about the late 1940s, we found the film inside my sister's Brownie).

that's FAR from the op's premise of "exploit a bunch of people for a tv program" to be honest...

we never got as far as finding out which wonderful specialist lab the OP had found to do the processing of these valuable rolls of film, but my money was on "bung them into max speilmans (other cheap processers are available) and just take a punt on if anything comes out or not - at least we'll get people crying when they see we've ruined the only shot they had a chance of getting of dear departed aunt dot..."

I didn't see the original thread when it was posted, but this seems like a perfectly reasonable premise for a TV programme (if it ever happens). Photography forums probably aren't the best place to ask, though, as participants are more likely to get precious about all those undeveloped masterpieces from a decade ago that they couldn't be bothered to get processed at the time. :)

not necessarily "masterpeices" but, when I was working fairly regularly, there'd sometimes be the odd roll of film in the bottom of the billingham that I couldn't remember what job it went with... so I'd get all the ones that I did know the provenance of done, and if the clients were happy with that, I'd shelve the "orphan", at least until I was processing a few rolls for myself...

now, when I came back to photography after a 10 year or more hiatus, there in the bottom of the camera bag were about half a dozen half-rolls or end-rolls just in the bag, not labelled, no notes, and I pretty much had to soup the lot of them just out of curiosity.

Not a single worthwhile frame in the lot of them

I've got a roll! It is black and white from 1980.

It may have shots of the West Indies playing Minor Counties at Jesmond. But it may not
