28-105 canon USM
17-55 IS canon f2.8
28-135 canon IS

sorry budget about £550/£650,
I have a 10-22mm an old 17-85mm which is what I'm looking to replace really,
I'm still learning hope that makes sense replacing the the 17-85mm,
thanks

Do you need a faster lens then the 17-85mm, i.e. f2.8 or would something like the 15-85mm f3.5-5.6 be ok. Better lens than the 17-85mm

the 17-55mm could be what I'm after,I'll look at some of the reviews and pricing, thanks for your help.

I have just upgraded from my 17-85 on a 40D to a 24-105L. Its a great walkround lens and just about available if you stretch your budget a bit!!

No reason why you shouldn't use an "L" lens on a crop sensor. I use them on both a 1.3 and 1.6 crop. You will not go wrong with a 24-105 F4 L

ok so what would the 24-105 f4 L equate too,(did say i was learning )on my 450D,and i have seen pics taken with this lens on 1.6 crop and they were very good,

For your budget I would be looking at the EF-S 17-55 F2.8 - It is a cracking lens all round. I have just had a bit of a reconcile of my lens and I have to say, I didn't even consider changing this one at all. I would only change it if there was a 24-105 F2.8 with IS.

24-105 is the FF equivilent of 38-168. It is a stunning lens and if you ever go FF it will still fit. And, they hold their value very well.
