Not today but actually Thursday, left Edinburgh airport around 9:45 bound for Madeira with Jet2, descending towards airport pilot informed us of high winds at airport preventing landing(winds had been gusting for a couple of days) so we were going into a holding pattern and hoping for a wee quiet spell to land, 20 minutes ish later passengers were informed gust increased so we were diverting back to Faro. On landing pilot call his home office-we were in front row and could see into cockpit- who after some discussion announced-aircraft control want the plane back in the UK tonight so it’s likely we’ll be returning to Edinburgh, after a wait and refuelling we were told we were Edinburgh bound and holiday cancelled for all on board, refunds would be arranged.
What annoyed me most was I found last night that around the time we took off for home the winds had dropped and flights getting in so if we’d headed back to Madeira we’d most likely have been able to land.
Refund is heading for bank and a week in Portugal arranged but I’d have preferred our two weeks in Funchal I’d booked, was looking forward to meeting friends and eating in places we always visit. Ah well, s*** happens.
Sorry long rant over.
