Driving behind a very nice black BMW M840i into Bracknell this morning.
Aftermarket BMW roundel on bootlid - red and black rather than white and blue - that did not affect me, but it was not level, not quite 1 degree out but enough to trigger OCD.
Just like C H E R Y badges on Tiggo8s. Not level.
Sorry Peter, I had to laugh. That irritates me too - I don't have OCD, but I certainly have many 'tendencies'.
Your posts reminded me of a guest on Radio4 who deals with people who have OCD and who spoke about how people who just like 'order, ' tidiness, symmetry..especial the latter, have the OCD label directed at them. There's a condition actually called 'symmetry OCD'.That BMW badge, not straight, would annoy me,too. I really enjoy going into supermarkets because the tins of..eg soup..are all aligned and labels facing the customers. The whole symmetry of the goods on the shelves appeals to my sense of tidiness and order. We left our holiday rental home in Scotland this morning and my wife got a text this afternoon from the owner who thanked us for leaving it..well, as we found it when we arrived. The cleaners told her they had little to do. In another accommodation in Cornwall, where we regularly went to, the owner said the cleaners found it more tidy/clean than they left it..lol...so..it has its positives. These owners want us back. My wife does a lot but I go that extra mile. As an aside. The lady in Cornwall wouldn't say a name,of course, but she had a husband a wife in for however long and when they left the place took two cleaners half a day to put it back to how it was when they arrived. Unwashed dishes in the sink, and on the table ,bedding turned back crumpled, recycle bins left full. A real mess and he was a well known top figure in a famous UK business. It was wealthy people who were worst, she said. Yes, the cost includes cleaning but leaving the place like a tip is unreasonable. I assume it's because some people just have others do everything for them. They have staff. Some regular people are just untidy and worse..don't care, don't have standards.
This is a copy/paste. I'm attaching it because this is exactly what the Radio4 guest ..a consultant, I think..was talking about saying that people who label others as having OCD or even those who like order and symmetry in their lives have no idea how debilitating OCD actually is. There's no such condition as ..'a bit of OCD' I mean, does the army RSM who makes the new recruits keep their rooms tidy, their uniforms pressed, their boots shining like the Polar star or Venus have OCD ? No. He's instilling a sense of order and discipline, too, I assume.
I also get a bit annoyed when people say.."I'll call round this afternoon" .." ok..what time"?, I ask. If they ask me to call round to see them ? ..."yes..what time? ". I arrive at that time, too. I also expect them to do likewise visiting me. Words like 'about' and 'that'll do" don't exist in my world.
Worth a read of the whole article.
Understanding OCD Obsessive-compulsive disorder As a psychotherapy practice based in Montclair, NJ, we aim to clarify the nature of OCD
starrtherapy.com
"OCD is a chronic mental health condition characterized by"
1. Obsessions: Persistent, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant anxiety or distress.
2. Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed to reduce the anxiety caused by obsessions or to prevent a feared event from happening.
"These patterns are time-consuming and interfere with daily life. OCD isn’t about enjoying organization; it’s about feeling trapped in a cycle of intrusive thoughts and repetitive behaviors as a way to manage overwhelming anxiety."
I feel none on the above and I suspect neither of you two do either.
