WBMT.....What baffled me today

I watched as a young lad parallel parked earlier, no effort involved, he drove straight into a wide open space.

WBMT? he then shunted back and forth 3 times, and ended up in exactly the same position :D

I watched someone do something similar last year. The difference was having moved, they couldn't manage to get it straight again. After five minutes she gave up and walked away leaving it with one back wheel on the kerb.

While waiting our turn at our supermarket click & collect car park, I was mystified by the driver also waiting their turn who was parked (with engine running) across two bays at 30 degrees to the white lines ?

On a secondary point, why do some diesel car owners find it necessary to leave their engines running while parked?

In Gloucester city centre there's a road that accommodates about 8 bus stops and pedestrians used to have to breathe in the exhaust fumes when walking past them. There must have been complaints because most don't let the engine idle now but buses are the worst..the old ones, especially. With the technology now in many cars that cuts the engine when stationary after a moment or so it must really help keep toxins down to a minimum.

Sitting waiting on wife whilst she was in shop I noticed several buses sitting in the terminus with signs on the rear telling drivers “If you’re stopped, switch off!” Every bus had it’s engine running and some had sat for the 15 minutes wife was in the shop.

WBMT?
for the past 3 days I've had updates from Hermes ( yeah I know I slipped up there)
"We have your parcel and will let you know when its out for delivery.... "

Today's update

"We've just received your parcel from Whistl"

So did you have it 3 days ago, or what all that a lie?

Baffling,

Exactly that - lies, lies, lies. I get this all the time from Hermes deliveries from Amazon. Their tracking system is not fit for purpose and achieves nothing - the only time I've found it to be accurate is when they tell you it has been delivered. Even in this situation; I've had that message before they've knocked the door. :banghead:

That's because some of those PDA's are cumbersome things and it's easier to do the scan and leave them in the vehicle (y)

Yeah I'd figured that, but what if they can't deliver? Over the fence it goes or dumped anywhere else that suits.

I got that this morning, I'll report back although I have to say, I've never had any issues with Hermes.

I've never had any issues with Hermes.
According to my local hub, just about everyone in my area, has problems of one kind or another with her.
I just had a ring on the doorbell, less than 20 secs to get down stairs, there was my parcel on the doorstep in the heavy rain, and she was driving off.
She had no idea
1) if I was in or not,
2) whether or not the contents would be destroyed by rain.
Luckily it would not be, plants.

Serves you right for living in MK! :p

Serves MK right too!

And Amazon arrived earlier too, left the parcel on the door step, totally ignoring my leave in a (my) safe place addendum, added to my account.
They had no idea if anyone was in, and yes it was p***ing down.
This time it could have been damaged by the wet too :(

I did have an Amazon order arrive yesterday evening and he left in on the doorstep after ringing the bell. It was persisting down but there's a small overhang/porch that keeps the worst off and he'd tucked the package into the driest corner. If we're out, they all usually stick the package in the meter/recycling bin cupboard - IF I remember to leave the key in the door and the note on the front door! (Me remembering is the usual problem...)

Just had another email from Hermes, my package is being delivered between 12 & 2 today.

White people using "Gammon" as an insult to other white people on (un)social media.

It's definition is angry (and so presumably red-faced) middle aged right-wingers, so white people who don't think of themselves as fitting that description using it against other white people who they think do, is logical.

Was it delivered as promised?

How do you mean baffled? Not familiar with that term myself, is it a Southern thing possibly?
I first head/read it during Brexit. It seems to have originated on the remain side of politics. If this is/was a thing born of Brexit one look at a ranting white establishment remainer should show that the insult can be equally applied. It is imo racist as it clearly targets a racial group for insult and is doubly bizarre when used to insult someone of the same race.

A few more people looking at themselves rather than hurling insults at anyone who disagrees with them might lead to a better world. It is imo a hateful and brainless insult and the sooner it dies a death the better.

Oh I see, just never really heard it before. :) (y)

It seems to crop up a lot and is IMO a hateful, stupid insult.

I was just baffled by it's use by white people against white people. As it seems contentious I'll leave my bafflement there.

It's primary focus is political viewpoint, not race. If, for example, Derek & Tommy Robinson are both getting angry and red faced, only Tommy could (by the current definition) be described as a gammon.

Seems screaming racism is the the latest tend.
Here we had a female pensioner accosted by 2 young women with eastern european accents and her purse stolen,
same thing happened in a village a few miles down the road.
It was reported on our local community page on FB and immediately someone screamed rascism

I went with a neighbour for a hospital appointment this morning, he has Parkinsons, early 70s
Following the usual questions and advice, he was asked to complete a test, first 3 parts
were using his hands to draw etc. Then came memory and some basic subtraction etc.
Result was that she felt he was borderline to continue driving but will leave the final decision to his GP
which I found strange as she is the specialist
We went down in his car and although generally driving was ok I did feel he was a bit slow in reacting to cars
slowing down in front and seemed to get close quite quickly so possibly reactions not as sharp.
I had an ex workmate who was diagnosed with possible sleep apnea and we wasn't allowed to drive until
it was confirmed, seems odd to me, no consistancy

Turo - Seems to be like Air BnB for cars - so someone uses the app and then uses my car for a day or few.

Really? Why would I want that? As a user would I want to use someones car that may not be as well maintained as I would hope. And from a car owner people will not take care of a hire car so knocks and dings, let alone people driving it badly.

I'm baffled as to how we went from April to October.
Very wet high winds .. Or perhaps that should be March, and someone has hit the rest button?

We had snow showers in Edinburgh a few weeks ago ...

The Missus showed me a birthday photo that a woman had taken of herself ( a selfie ), her mate sent it to her.
Missus said "isn't she gorgeous, it's a lovely photo isn't it?".

Taken on a phone, and one of those silly filters added. It really does baffle me, I would rather see her natural beauty.

Talking of selfies...

I have new neighbours supposedly moving in tomorrow, 2 bed downstairs flat

5 Weeks ago a tradesman turned up to install a new kitchen and bathroom, he did have a plumbing firm on the first day to remove the old and install new water tanks etc, he normally has at least two other workers with him

Bath room is being converted into a wet room and I know others who have had it done in a matter of 4/5 days.

He arrives before 7am some days, this being an over 50s estate with many resident being elderly it hasn't been popular
with all the noise that early in the day, including weekends, his workers travel separately so the limited parking soon fills up,
He is still here now, hopefully finishing off ready for the new owners to move in tomorrow

I do hope they have accepted a set quote for the work and not an hourly contract
