WBMT.....What baffled me today

WBMT is the concept of RFID cases for car fobs/remotes. Surely the whole point of a fob in many instances is the convenience of keyless entry but sticking the fob in an RFID case negates that completely. Add in the Velcro flap and it makes the system less convenient than an old-fashioned key!

To misquote Flanders and Swann: it all makes more things for the working man to sell! ;)

Never a dull moment.

School bus with my daughter onboard hit a stop sign leaving the school today, shattering a window behind where she was sat. Said daughter duly phoned me from the bus and it was chaos, I only heard 'bus hit a sign', so you can imagine. :runaway:

I was about to leave for the school, it's an 8 mile drive when the phone rang again, my daughter, now in a quieter environment, reassuring me she was ok.

Took a few attempts but my heart has now been relocated to where it should be.

I'm glad she is OK Dale :)

Cheers @Cobra, Chris. She got a fright more than anything, so did I. Nobody hurt at all.

Baffling how a professional driver could have hit that sign but we all make mistakes I suppose.

A website I bought from yesterday. I didn't want the item sent to my billing address but could not find anywhere on the site to put in a delivery address.

I cancelled the order and tried again using another browser just in case there was something odd with the first one, but the result was the same.

When I phoned them they said if I emailed them with the order number and the address I wanted the item sent to, they would sort it. I sent the email and got a confirmation that the delivery would be sent where I want it.

This is the only website I've used where I coould not change the delivery address. Just seems they are giving themselves more work.

What baffled us today
had a food delivery from Morrisons they apparently didn’t have the tan (light brown) shoe polish that we ordered so they substituted black instead, I mean surely it’s common sense that you dont use black shoe polish on brown shoes:oops: :$

Update got an email from Morrisons they agreed that it wasn’t a wise substitution  As well as a refund, wasn’t the money just made me smile that someone would do that:)

We enjoyed our holiday at Cannero, Lake Maggiore,Italy last year so much that we're minded to go again next year but further south, in or near Stresa. My wife finds hotels and I do the research..Tripadvisor and the likes plus I take a look via Google Earth. She sent me one that was on the main road. We visited Stresa on a boat trip so I knew how busy that road is. The front of the hotel overlooks it, then the lake. I was right, reviews mentioned the road noise..otherwise a lovely hotel. I don't know why a nearby hotel came up, too but it did and had the same comments re the road but there was a review which included this and WBMT is why people feel they need to say what this reviewer said. ...my bold...my

The husband wrote..."Having read some very good reports on this hotel we spent 4 days there during an extensive trip to the Italian Lakes from which we have just returned.
For those driving to this hotel, especially those arriving in a car of some value there is a rude awakening in the form of the parking provision. At the Hotel itself there is room for perhaps 6 tightly parked cars. For the vast majority of guests the parking provision takes the form of the overgrown grounds of an adjacent derelict property which is also used by refuse trucks and coaches. Cars are therefore left on muddy uneven ground, unlit, with no form of security some 200m from the Hotel. Fortunately, I had taken my Range Rover on the trip rather than one of my Porsches ..........but, either way, the parking was a disgrace. Once again, there is no mention made as to the nature of the parking available at the time of booking.

The poor chap. I feel for him..

While watching the COVID inquiry.

Apart from the KCs who ask the questions there are quite few others in the room.

I'm baffled by there being so many, there could be a good reason I don't know, but, what they are doing? They do appear to be looking at screens but most don't seem to be doing anything - they hardly move.

WBMT?
My new phone, it was a case of needs must, it wasn't on a whim (- away a whim-away... )

I've been at it on and off a good 4 hours, and barely half way there, technology hates me :(

I'm dreading mine failing! Learning is not my strongest skill these days.

I did cry a little, and same here with new tech
As was at it to well past midnight and I think I have it sussed now,
Failing that my daughter has the same phone (Samsung) and she can take a look next time she drops round.

edit apparently it has a 50Mpx back camera
That I have yet to test though.

To be honest it’s one reason we went with apple they make it easy when you get a new phone, all just transfers over and all syncs up with ipad and laptop, we tend to keep our phones as long as possible though

I keep mine as long as possible too and that's the reason I bought the same last time, easy swap and I knew how it worked. TBH it was a good deal, and I don't use / have much data / information on my phone.
I don't live my life by it, like so many seem to do these days.
It was really just transferring contacts, and they were mostly done via the sim, setting up the wifi transferring the whats app and other bits.
But the whole device had me totally baffled, new tech and all that :D

:runaway:

I trade you Mmmm Bop - Hanson.
I have absolutely no idea who or what that is, so it had no effect :D
( Sorry not sorry :D )

Well now you have a real phone, Samsung doan app called Smartswich that transfers everything over, makes life so easy

I've no plans to replace this one :p

And as above it was more about learning the damned thing,
not much to swap over.

Here we go, its dark here and the Battle of the Somme is being re-inacted.
People seem to have no money for food, but plenty for bangie flashie things.

I've not bought any in years, but I couldn't believe the price of the things when I stumbled across them recently!

Same here and we wondered that too they are so expensive, I don’t get it myself

Much the same hear I can't remember the last time I bought any, normally pop to the local display if the weathers not to bad.
I do remember back in the day my dad use to make his own, long before health and safety.

As above, I've not bought any in many many years, even the kids soon lost interest.
But I do remember the penny bangers and a couple of bob for a large box :D

They always put on a good one here, along with a proper fun fair too.

LOL that'd go down well these days :D
I still have a few industrial rockets and bangers left over from my bird control days.
They are bloody loud in open spaces, I can't imagine what they would sound like
in built up areas!

+1 on the Guy Fawkes "celebrations"??? What a waste of dosh! Money to burn - literally! Next it's Christmas wrapping paper and cards. All to be "recycled"! That little (or large these days) screen has a lot to answer for. Note to family and friends. I have enough "stuff!" Note to family only.... it will be your job to clear all my "stuff" one day!

I went into a local firework specialist for coloured smoke bombs for some planned photos.

They had a 4 minute 30 second display in a box for a low price of just £350...

Grandson had a fifth birthday party. Entertainer, gifts, Hall, food.............................. He's FIVE!!!!!!! :headbang::angelic:

Wildlife and Nature programs that seem to be hiding the kill after the hunt

If their showing the beauty of nature, they should continue to show the darkside, they film the chase, the catch, then pan away from the kill, only to return for the feast.

I understand it can be harsh, but it's the truth.

Agree it’s part of nature they should show everything, I was chatting to a lady in a charity shop yesterday who said she can’t bear to watch the kill on those programs I guess it’s for people like that that they hide it a shame though as it’s as you say what it’s like

Should they show the whole kill though? It can take a long time for the prey animal to die and isn't exactly pleasant viewing!

Not in TV programs.......

But when I was an RSPB fundraiser I had occasion to address the "how do I stop the Sparrowhawk taking the little birds" and had to explain that one reason the hawk is there was because of how many song birds you are seeing in the garden.

I would compliment the person's feeding efforts to help the birds but to please recognise that the hawk has to eat too. So the only action they could take would be hawk proof the feeders but that would only reduce and not stop it hunting.

Lastly, red in tooth & claw though nature can be to enjoy that all birds are wonderful to see.

WBMT? There are two guys replacing the soffit and fascia on a house in our road. They are not removing the old wooden fascia nor the soffit. they are using adhesive to stick UPVC covers over the top? Is that the way it's done now?

That is the way some installers will do it...... IMO the cheap & nasty way that is potentially hiding problems of the wooden ones or indeed the ends of the roof trusses/rafters.

When had ours done years back and more latterly on the garage, I made sure to ask and state what we wanted. That was to remove all the old wooden ones and attach the uPVC replacements as appropriate

AFAIK our neighbour had a lower cost job done and they covered the wooden ones up.......they are showing signs of aging/wear & tear compared to ours done approx 12-18 months later.

Plus there are no airways in the new soffits. Ours retained the airways to ensure an constant fresh air circulation into the roof space.

That’s always been the cheap way of doing it. A proper job would be to remove all the old woodwork first but a lot of people just want it to look nice without thinking about the consequences of just whacking plastic over the top of wood.

Just had lunch in Morrisons
Wife had sausages and mash she couldn’t have mustard they said for allergy reasons you can’t have mustard the their restaurants
Makes no sense to me

It annoys me when they do / say things like this, allegedly for our own good,
Like having to ask for a salt cellar :(

Yes I mean if someone is allergic to mustard then they just chose not to have it
It’s barmy that Morrisons have decided that nobody can have mustard in thier cafe

WBMT?

Following on from my ordering my sunflower hearts yesterday at £24.99 for 25.1kg (normal price has been £31.99) todays stunning Black Friday deal is 10% off orders under £60 or 15% off over £60 but the price is now £39.99 for 25.1kg!

Do I need to ask if they are taking the p?

Do I need to ask if they are taking the p?
Market forces, supply and demand, but above all, yes that does sound like urine extraction to me.
