I've seen oystercatchers as far inland as Tomintoul and Braemar.

This one was on the A9,Dave. After leaving we went over the Kessock bridge, Moray Firth and then west. . It's a massive store . So big it's called 'Tesco Extra' . I've just done a Google. Inverness shopping park,Eastfield Way.

The same one. It is very close to the A9 but just on the A96. At the far end of the retail park there are speakers on one of the buildings playing alarm calls to try to deter the gulls with a little success. Oystercatchers seem, in my limited experience, to be very flighty bird, given to being spooked easily so it surprised me to see one in such a busy location.

Just got an email to say that my energy supplier is putting my payments up £15.81 a month even though I'm in credit £246.41 and £157.10 (I'm with them for gas and electricity).

If I'm in credit why put my bill up? Should be going down if anything, surely?

I had the same thing with Octopus last year, I ended up reducing the amount.
 
Octopus are very good at refunds when you have too much in credit, returned in a couple of days, details on your billing website.
 
Channel 5 and all the other 5 channels are not available on Freesat via a Humax freesat box. I can get it on Freeview but can't record from there. Any one else having the same problem.
The Humax is HD capable and other HD Channels are working fine.

They're on my freesat. 10 yo Humax box that no longer runs any apps and doesn't have a recorder. Have you checked the full channel listings? Occasionally channel numbers get changed and they drop off the favourites list

I've just checked my Humax box and Channel 5 is working fine.

I dumped Sky earlier this year and picked up a Humax HDR-1100S.... Even though it hasn't got certain channels in HD, Film4 being one of them,, I'm more than impressed with the SD quality it outputs when watching Film4. My TV has Freesat but I wanted the option to record stuff hence why I bought a Humax box.

Why some men feel the need to wear braces and a belt, an older chap local to me always does, as were the 2 guys in for lunch in the pub today, the may have been Dutch though.
 
Well not exactly today......

In the past I have ordered from Amazon and the item it turned out was coming from Germany which I thought was a glitch oddity.

However, I ordered a pair of binoculars a few days ago and it turns out that are are coming from Germany too.

In both instances the items were sold & delivered by Amazon as I now avoid from them that is supplied & delivered by a third party merchant and likewise a tad wary if Delivered by Amazon but sold by a third party.

Possible that it might have been an agreed death (mercy killing/assisted suicide/whatever you want to call it ) I suppose? I presume the police, coroner etc have to follow certain protocol before it’s decided it’s definitely foul play.

I can recall two other murders here in the UK in which there was CCTV footage of the perpetrator wheeling a suitcase along on the footpath with the body in it and I've wondered how on earth they get the body of an adult into a suitcase..Our suitcases are quite large but nevertheless...
 
We've had no internet for three days. I'm on my iPad linked to my phone. Hard work.

The first BT engineer was unable to sort it. The router is showing red. No TV either as that goes through the router,too. He said he'd just come from a house further along the road and the people there have the same problem and he couldn't fix that,either. Today an Openreach engineer came and said our end was ok and didn't need the new router BT had sent. Very fast Evri delivery,I must say. Seems that it won't work because the code we have for our internet has been swapped with someone else's in the road. Seems it's a whole street problem for BT customers...I think. Today, the engineer was here for over an hour and eventually ended up at the junction box at the end of the road. An engineer has crossed wires. All the other homes have their internet restored bar us. So..obviouly our house specific code..if that's how it works, has been 'swapped' with another household's code not in our road.

It's a good job it's not football season as I can watch a lot of matches via TNT/HBO Max. We have no idea when Openreach engineer number two will come out. The first engineer was from BT but as it's an infrastructure problem it's now a problem for Openreach.

At least we can get internet via our phones but working with my iMac is far easier.

Apparently the alert was sent in Welsh first to fulfil legal obligations to promote the Welsh language , a complete failure of common sense
Was to do with wildfire risks , I did a quick google translate
I am all for promoting the Welsh language but surely its common sense to send it in English firstor at least both together as thats what most people speak
Most information here is provided in both languages at the same time and that’s absolutely fine

Mine were in English but for some reason they decided that I needed the original plus four copies (or perhaps five, I lost count) at ever increasing intervals. :wideyed:

Now Swatch seem to be flogging them out of car boots in shopping centres!
I did get one of the Moon ones a few months ago (a few of them are available on the web) but still wanted a Neptune (blue) one to match the bike... I knew the strap would be too short but had one on a different watch so have borrowed that until a better colour matched one arrives after holiday.

Re our interent connection. Now sorted but it took a specialised Openreach engineer at a level above most others. He spent his time at the junction box along the road and said he had never come across this problem before....whatever it was.
 
Driving along the Country Way in SW London - the A316 - towards the M3 this morning...3 lane section past Sunbury just before Kempton Racecourse - I pass a Mini that is in Lane 2 going 50-ish...There is nothing in Lane 1, but on that stretch it is forgivable on account of the petrol station, bus stops and various roads leaving and joining - basically you are mad if you continue from Apex Corner to the M3 in Lane 1.

This Mini, just as I pass it indicates right to go into Lane 3, just after I return to Lane 2. I question her sanity and I see her indicating left thinking she has seen the error of her ways.

No, she didn't just return to Lane 2, or even Lane 1. It was to take the next exit into Kempton Park.

We just went digital, to avoid the rush expected in January.

It took four days to sort it out and when the Openreach engineer finally got it working, he admitted that he had no idea how he'd done it! To be fair, neither did our broadband supplier, who we've been been with for more than 20 years and who have always provided us with first rate service. :(

Openreach were supposed to start work on Sept. 1st connecting us..first dig a trench on the edge of the lawn to the block-paved area infront of living room window and along to the new junction box by the front door. No-one turned up. We called them saying we were off on holiday in 4 days. The customer care chap couldn't say when they will come. Also, next door have a fully block-paved front and the Openreach engineer said it's costing OR millions to pay contractors to dig up block paving..tarmac,too, I suppose and he thinks they've greatly underestimated the number of drives that have to be dug up. A case of 'watch this space'. Maybe time to sell BT Group shares...lol 199p today at close.
 
I'm probably in the minority with this, but when I'm on holiday abroad I happily walk around wearing sunglasses, but even when it's super sunny in the UK I never wear them, only when driving. I don't know why it feels strange to wear them walking around in the UK.

I wear sunglasses just about all the time and I live in the north east of Scotland, I have very light sensitive eyes and the slightest amount of sunlight renders me blind.
 
I use a Tilley hat - protects my neck too! (That and factor 30...) Still need sunglasses.

I wear prescription glasses which are Photochromic so they automatically darken in sunlight but are clear in lower light situations. I have had this arrangement for many years now and it suits me well when just out walking, driving or playing tennis.

I do too but sometimes I can't see anything in the viewfinder on bright days. I'm considering getting a plain cheap pair to keep in the camera bag.

Me as well and have done for some years and on my current pair the photochromic coating is one that also goes a little darker in the car. NB this characteristic was for me a welcome new 'function'.

But as @seaodyssey says there are times when the viewfinder view is challenging. I think this has been exacerbated with the advent of mirrorless vs SLR, even though you can set the EVF to simulate and OVF.

One thing I have been considering is to get non photochromic lenses and get a pair of over sunglasses.......having said that IIRC I tried that many years ago and found them inconvenient;(
