WBMT.....What baffled me today

Was watching random YouTube videos and came across this one

First 2 are Bohemian Rhapsody & Hotel California. Who on earth has forgotten those? Didn't bother after that.
Normal clickbait nonsense, won't watch, thanks for heads up. Girl fronting thumbnail wasn't even.thought of when Queen released Bohemian Rhapsody.

I think the word, 'not' wshould be added between the words, '18' and 'Forgotten'.

I've put this in WBMT but it could have gone in WAMT. No point in getting annoyed but it is baffling especially as the backpack is so large .Standing, it is 22" in height and 13.5" width . Interior depth 6.3."

On September 1st my wife sold my large camera backpack..the Tamrac Expidition 8...on Vinted. It's 'as new'. Too heavy for me with camera gear in so it had two outings in the car boot. I'm not on Vinted but she's sold a lot of her 'stuff' on it and very quickly, too. The delivery company is Evri. Tracking showed it was collected on September 1st and at one point 'out for delivery'. It remained in that state for about 10 days. Then a text came stating that they were unable to locate it and myself and the buyer would be refunded in full. Then, yesterday, another tracking notification. "Unable to deliver being returned".....to me within 25 days. My wife and the purchaser are in contact. She's asked that I don't re-sell on another platform and find a way to get it to her.My wife replied suggesting we re-send it to her but choose Royal Mail. The buyer thinks this is a good plan. It seems a seller can choose which delivery company to use.. I don't know if my wife 'chose' Evri or just went with what Vendit chose because, had I known, I would not have gone with Evri despite some people saying it's improved a lot since it merged with DHL who hold a significant minororty stake. It wouldn't be difficult tbh. On Trustpilot it's get a 5 star rating with 77%. 4 Star..6% three stars 2% One star 13%. I think the way Trustpilot calculates its star ratings is, maybe, flawed. Here is a review on Trustpilot posted just 14 minutes ago..so 11.27am...as I post.

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Awful company

No idea how they have such a high rating! Every single delivery I have ever had with them was either delivered to some random door, or was never delivered but marked as delivered. I’ve had countless parcels stolen by their drivers. I’ve also had to constantly contact them in order to establish what’s going on with my deliveries. Instead of just getting my parcel, I have to manage the logistics! I’ve tried asking for a delivery to my local parcel counter, but their drivers are so incompetent, they have no idea what they’re doing, so they just mark my parcel as “no one was home” and send it back. You’re meant to deliver to the locker!?!?!? Oh and the constant “we’re so sorry this has happened” is annoying when clearly the company doesn’t learn from its mistakes and keeps repeating them. If I could choose who to use for deliveries, Evri wouldn’t even be on the list!
As soon as I see something is coming via Evri, I know there will be issues.

I better post the reply. After this reply there were seven 5-star reviews and one 4-star then a one star. That one star was telling Evri they were sending a customer's details to the wrong person..ie wrong Email address.

This is the same automated reply to all customers with a problem. Another issue highlighted was not being able to speak with someone..just automated responses.

According to Ofcom, 22,000 Evri parcels go astray every day. It handles just over a billion items annually with a target of 1.4 billion by 2030.

Evri are an appalling outfit. We ordered a pedestal fan from Amazon during the first stages of the heatwave. It was only after the delivery was confirmed that I realised it was coming via Evri. Oh great. It didn’t arrive, unsurprisingly. Evri’s tracking showed it was in a local depot for a couple of weeks but they eventually told the seller they’d lost it. I got a refund but by then most fans had either sold out or had tripled in price.

I wonder if the fan is now either sitting in an employee’s house or has been sold off. They apparently “lose” so much stuff it makes you wonder how lax their warehouse security systems must be or how little they seem to care if their drivers are stealing the deliveries.

My Tamrac camera backpack has just been delivered to me. It's now wrapped in black plastic which I didn't put round it. I told the driver..a subcontractor, what happened and he said that Evri hire non-Evri delivery people ..ie sub-contracting and don't check who they are and in his depot last week the immigration people turned up.

Now my wife will let the buyer know and we'll re-send but choose Royal Mail.

In the past I have seen Post Office delivered mail re-bagged/over bagged if damaged in transit.

For fear of stating the obvious and were I in your shoes I would unwrap it to check for any issues?

Thanks, Laurence. I'll do that but it was a camera backpack and not fragile but I will check. There was a name and address on it. A nursing home in Droitwich. My guess is that's where the buyer works. Looks like the Evri driver couldn't be bothered to go to it so saying 'unable to deliver' wasn't true because there would be staff there 24/7

Fragile or not, you never know what condition it might be in, and why they re/over bagged it?

Hopefully it is aok and it will get to your intended recipient.

You're right. It needed checking even though there was only about 4" of removed sticky tape and a battered corner of the box. It was ok.

Certainly easier to spell (AND say!)

I ordered a light rain jacket about a week ago. Three days later it arrived. No Email telling me it had been dispatched etc. It just arrived Royal Mail. I've had it for three days and today I got this Email from the company. Surely there's not another one on the way ? It was £55. I assume if it does they will send me a return label when I call them to be returned at their expense. Maybe this Email was held up in their system and it's just been churned out.

Do you ever lose something and then find it in an obvious place you've looked at already?

My hobby recently has been building watches and as the kitchen has the best lighting that's where I've been doing it. Because I get obsessed I wanted to change the second hand of a watch so I took the old one off and then lost it straight away. These things are the thickness of a hair and I couldn't find it on the worktop or floor so eventually I gave up looking but only after scouring the worktop and floor with a magnifying glass and then wiping both with a cloth. It was nowhere to be seen.

Last night, and this is days later, I spotted it on the worktop. This worktop had been inspected with a magnifying glass and then wiped at the time and then wiped several times a day since so how on earth was it there? No idea.

You obviously missed it with the magnifying glass but maybe you saw it days later because the light struck it at a certain angle . Our kitchen worktops are grey/black marble effect and I used to 'lose' the top of the milk bottle (plastic) because it just blended in so well. I'd start at one end of the worktop on one side and go round slowly but still missed it so.. I solved that by marking a black cross on it with a felt-tip pen. You can't do that with a part so small but the principle of not seeing it is the same.. Having said that, I do wonder if you were concentrating so much looking through that glass that the brain just 'cut it out' ..the second hand, when you did pass over it.

I missed it with the magnifying glass but I must have swiped it with a cloth as I've cleaned it so many times but I must have just moved it and not picked it up.

Our kitchen top is light coloured granite with spots and sparkly bits in it and it's difficult to see small lightly coloured things on it so I use a glass cutting board when fiddling with watches but these parts are tiny and can spring out of tweezers and fly anywhere which is what this did. I'm just amazed it was still there.

All's well that ends well, as they say..:)

These things are always found in the last place you look.

Royal Mail deliver faster than their email provider?

This report claiming England consumed 2.5billion lines of Cocaine last year, that is somewhere north of 40 lines for every single adult and child in the country….is that a reflection on how naive I am to it going on, having only spotted one likely user in the last 12 months, or that the journalists don’t even put the slightest bit of thought into testing such claims for realism when composing their headlines?

AI journalism?

Is it time to hire back all those subs, that have leaked from the industry, in the last couple of decades?
Sunday Times has got a good one today. Printed headline states
Hospital death rate soars for hip fractures
The online headline has been changed to

Hospitals in A&E crisis investigate hip fracture death rate

The article is about Nottingham hospitals.

It states that if a patient waits more than 36 hours, there's a 20% increase in mortality. Which isn't that surprising. "Soars" I guess there are different interpretations of that word.

They were possibly looking for rises or increases, but neither have the impact factor they wanted.

Police Transit on the M3 - actually from Apex Corner on the A316....sitting in the middle lane, nothing on the left. Rental van in Lane 3, Mr Angry in Golf (me) right behind said van - in 50 zone doing 45.

Can't pass Police van on left as that is driving without due care and attention....eventually pass vans at NSL (85), police van plodding along in middle lane, catch up with BMW estate that's just moved from Lane 3 to Lane 2 (not overtaking anything) - I try to get their attention, but no, they stick to Lane 2....police van catches up with BMW estate.

Guess what happens next?

One explanation that comes to mind immediately, is that they're checking out a report of something like debris or an animal on the road.

That's been shown on more than one episode of those several "fly on the wall" programmes on TV. The Motorway patrol vehicles seldom have time for such jobs and they possibly use a big vehicle for safety reasons (or perhaps that was the only spare vehicle at the time).

er no, they were in conversation with each other, and no chance of spotting debris when they are literally slipstreaming the BMW in front of it.. I was half expecting the van to pull the BMW over, but no what it did was to catch up with the BMW - not pass it, but remain there at a lower speed until J2 on the M3.

And there were no warnings on the gantries or on Waze.

Bloody car!

Electrical gremlins have been plaguing my Saab. Battery needed replacing, then warning signs telling me battery wasn't being charged (yes it was) and refusal to start (single click indicative of a failing starter motor). Fellow owner said, take out fuse and replace, usually does the trick.. Did that, and it started. Next time, refused to start - repeated the fuse trick.... nothing....trip to Halfords and depleted their stocks of micro blade fuses, went to fit a new 15 amp fuse in the fuse box, but before I did I check whether the car would turn over or not....it did!!!

Should I risk taking the Saab to North Wales this weekend I wonder?

er no, they were in conversation with each other,
...and could you hear what they were saying to each other?

A police vehicle tailgating another vehicle? Methinks this story gets less credible as it goes on.
