WCMUT....what cheered me up today

Stupidity really knows no bounds does it? What an absolute tosser.

Idiot. And to attempt anything like that with two dogs in the garden? Double Idiot.

I take it you don't have ants ?
They chew the roots from my plants and small veggie plot and kill them.
Rumour has it, that MK was built on an ant hill, when I was doing "domestic" pest control I'd do about a dozen ant jobs / day through the summer.
And of course we weren't the only local pest control company, all the others I spoke to were doing equal or more ant jobs.

Red ants bite worse than black ants. And your'll know it if you step on a nest.
Worse of course if *you" have young children around the place.
Or even cats / dogs come to that.
They can get into their noses, while they are checking out any apparent nest

If left uncontrolled they will be in your house marching over work tops looking for any opportunity to eat.
Even the merest of morsels that *you* probably wouldn't even see will feed an ant for at least a day.

Of course I have ants. Never had any problem with them biting me:). They don’t eat plants but do farm aphids on roots and stems. You’ll still have the aphids if you kill the ants. I realise you have a special interest in bugging up the damage they do :).

We have an ants nest under the block paving and they sometimes swarm out when I'm doing the weeding. Recently they invaded the kitchen but I spotted where they were getting in and bunged it up. I bought some ant killer spray but it looks like it has no effect on them.

WCMUT.

I managed not to buy a couple of film era primes I really honest truly don't need on evil bay.

I ordered a Sun Sniper Backpack strap because my normal sunsniper strap 'fights' with my rucksack straps and tries to throttle me.

The packaging has obviously been mistranslated from German but says "for the cute backpack owner". I've had a manky week with work so this made me chuckle.

I think this guy mixed fertilizer with sugar...
Worked though. (y)
Last resort that one, but I know people that have been driven to distraction by them and tried to set light to the nest ...
Of course its deep underground and that has no effect...

Absolutely, but I have a whole heard of ladybird larvae bought and released earlier this year.. so far no aphids.
Also something that is a real PITA.

It'll kill a few if you hit them directly, but as above it'll go no where near the queen and she'll still be producing replacement
faster than you can kill them.

People need to relax a bit an welcome our new Ant Overlords. They’ve seen us arrive and now they are seeing us going :). They are better place to survive global heating than we are!

For the first time in well over a year I went shopping.

I was very pleased to see everyone(and I mean everyone) in the Tesco store in Dingwall was wearing a mask.

Amazon ... AMAZING!!!

Ordered something yesterday at 08.44. Managed to decline the numerous offers of Prime free trial. ;)

Order was confirmed with delivery date of Monday 5th.

19.35 Email to say item had been dispatched and amended delivery date to Saturday 3rd.

This morning another email at 11.55 to say item will be delivered today and sure enough there it was at 14.06.

I wonder if it would have been quicker with Prime?

WCMUT ? Watching 18 year old Emma Raducanu get through to the last 16 at Wimbledon just now. At one point she was 8 games ahead of her opponent.

She was born in Toronto and her father is Romanian and her mum is Chinese. She moved to England aged two and grew up in London.

I checked the progress of a lens on auction on evil bay today and I'll check when the auction ends tomorrow but I have no intention of bidding and I'm just checking what it goes for after initially being interested and decided not to bid. Could this be a turning point for me? Maybe :D

Not really today but I was banned from TP by mistake the other day and seeing the forum being available is such a delight :D

A technical error that was sorted out very quickly, Welcome back (y)

Oh Yeah? Isn't that what everyone claims?
Your claim to fame?
Banned because I can ...
( Just ask me nicely (y) )

No need for me to ask... it'll happen when one of you mods reads my posts  :$

I do sometimes, I read as many ( posts) as I can, and believe me you are Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down the ban list
:D

Bumped into the lads from the local full fibre ISP busy pulling cables in my town... The end of relying on any BT Group plc service is nigh. The fact that I'll get the broadband speed I pay for is a bonus.

This apparently caused a bit of negative reaction on Twitter (what doesn't?) but hopefully people here can ignore all that and avoid reading the comments and just see what I saw... kids having a great time making this vid...

Hey..Alan. If the t*****s don't like that they probably liked this even less and became apoplectic. I was so angry I used the 'comment Email' (in your video clip) to the school head to register my support and condemnation of the so-called woke brigade.

A police academy in Shenyang, China is to sell 54 trainee dogs starting at £22 each because they're not good enough for law enforcement work. They include German Shepherds and Belgium Malinois (they look very similar to the German Shepherd dogs)..They were branded as 'cowards' or had 'feeble paws ' and another flaw was 'curly ears'. Curly ears ?? The mind boggles...

What cheered me up was that, at least, they're selling them and not putting them down which is what I was expecting to read.

I used to have a Chinese GF. She had a couple of jobs one of which was escorting Chinese delegations here there are everywhere and acting as a guide and translator. Once in London one delegate when watching the pigeons said "Why don't the British eat them? The British are stupid, they'll be delicious." She said in some parts of the country they hunt and eat everything.

Some years ago when China had only just ‘opened up’ a relative went there fairly frequently selling medical software. While being shown around he arrived in a rural town square and found a crowd of men with guns gathered round a tree. From the exited nature he suspected
some sort of insurrection but on closer inspection it appeared the excitement was about what he described as “a small sparrow in the tree” :).

At £20 they probably are :(.

I had a Kazakh GF, she was a originally a country girl and said the same... in rural parts they hunt and eat anything that moves or rather they hunt and eat anything that doesn't move fast enough. I don't agree with it... but it's their practice and culture.

OTOH it’s not all that different (unless it’s changed in recent years) from Italy :).

Under Chairman Mao, as part of a campaign to rid China of pests they decided to exterminate sparrows who were accused of eating seeds & grains. Many millions or sparrows were exterminated, then the chinese discovered that sparrows ate insects too, & without the sparrows the insect population boomed & destroyed the food crops ..... causing mass starvation

Yes, I know, and it’s possible this was a hangover from Mao but it was a longish time after him :). Still, old habits die hard, especially in China, as we are currently witnessing :(.

As so many sparrows were exterminated, maybe the villagers were struck with the novelty of finding one?

But … guns … ;) Anyway it was a passing observation on his part and perhaps there was a larger story.

City pigeons taste(d) of Diesel fumes.

And potentially carry more diseases than Rats.
Urban bird control guys won't even feed their hawks on what they catch.
