Failed to turn up for a wedding yesterday after a detail chat on Wednesday. The lady who was getting married has been seriously crapped on,relied on mates P&S `s for any shots.

Now people will spout about excuses, there are none for simply not turning up................

Got to say anyone who took that site seriously needs a reality check.

If it sounds too good to be true . . . .

Surely being dead would be accepted as a fairly reasonable excuse

It has given me an idea though Ade. How about a pay by the hour marriage? I am sure I could reduce my outgoings by a substantial amount :D

People
Our Staff play massive roles in our business, contributing to services such as wedding photography, wedding video, wedding disco and wedding cars not only have they managed to adjust to the current financial climate, but also deliver the highest quality of work.

 [for all sorts of reasons]

Appreciate all the warnings, I would have warned the lady off them. But she had booked and PAID for this shower not to show up.

Gives us all a bad rep, think on...........

Come accross them before Ade, not the first time I've heard really bad reports.

Sorry to hear the lady had such a bad experience. I always tell the venues I work at most that they can call me in just such an emergency. My kit is always packed and ready and I have a phone full of people I can call on too.

I have offered a free reshoot Alison, not good for business, but good free advertising....................:)

You're a good chap Ade, give me a shout if you need a hand. :)

Thanks Alison, but I will be ok.

Why do people book clowns like squashed Apple or whatever name they trade under, I hope this thread comes up on Google and they lose loads of business.

Maybe i`m old fashioned and naive, but if you commit to some thing, you bleeding well do it.

No gallery on the website should be a warning sign. The few poor quality and stretched to fit photos on the video aren't much to recommend them by.

Agree Matt, we know that, but most people looking for photographers don`t in fairness.

Anybody find any Gallery shots on here I mean who even thinks about booking a wedding tog with no shots on their website,in addition Disco,Video and Cars sounds like a Jack of all trades and Master of none

wtf does that even mean?

The problem is that people have no idea what a good photographer is, they are more interested in cost.

I've worked along side one recently, he's a nice guy but its barely average at taking photos.

His portfolio on his site is appalling, studio shots with grey backgrounds that just end when he could either have cropped or photoshopped a new one in.

I have been thinking for some time about writing a guide on choosing a wedding tog/videographer and circulating it online (websites/facebook) as well as in magazines.

There is tons of advice out there already :)

I have one article posted on my website,

http://www.seattlebridemag.com/stories/pros-hiring-pro Reproduced with the kind permission of Seattle Bride. This is my favourite article on hiring a pro.

Most of my mates do too, almost every bridal mag and web directory has it but some people just don't read it.

They buy based on price and then wonder why they got cheap ***p!

I didn't think you'd shot one as primary yet? No disrespect but with that in mind how can you know what are the do/don't?

There's stacks of stuff out there already as Ali says.

Well, I hate to say it, but you get exactly what you pay for. Got to love these wedded folk who buy the most expensive rings, hotels, and honeymoon trips and ask for their friends to take pictures with automatic compact cameras. Talk about class...

So people who don't necessarily want to pay hundreds of pounds for a tog have no class? Whatever their reasons for choosing this shower, they don't deserve having a complete no show on their big day.

I had a quick look at the site and it didn't fill me with great confidence! I also couldn't find any T&C's for insurance or any MPA or BIPP credentials either.

Or mine :) You are never going to find MPA or BIPP on something like this though Dave. The actual photographers are students who have had about 10 mins to figure out how to change a CF card!

I was actually just reading a tread on DWF on how to best serve the low end market and I think the conclusion was that it is too much work and too much risk to anyone's good name to be worth the very small profits. By them time the student is paid and taxes paid you'd be lucky to get the cost of the DVD in profits ;)

If it really was such a big day to them, they would have treated it as such. Like I said, you deserve what you pay for.

I think a few people are being harsh.. we know photogrpahy and most ahve our our own websites and we are internet savvy..

Anyone who is new to both photogrpahy and the internet looking for a local site not even knowing how to search proper.. they could be fooled by this as indeed that would seem to be the point of the website

I wouldnt expect all wedding couples to know all about photogrpahy or even the internet and as said before... nobody.... absoloutly nobody who books a photogrpaher in good faith deserves a no show on there wedding day... makes me so sad just to hear this story.. :(

Do we know what they paid?

I can't see it being too much, I think I saw something like £25 or £35 an hour quoted on their site? I just hope they didn't hire them to double up as the DJs as well!

Well, as horrific an experience as it was that this couple went through, good common sense is simply what it is. if you see a hotel sign advertising rooms for rent by the hour, chances are most thinking folk wouldn't expect quality lodgings. Instead, one might expect a musky, ratchety old bed, a few cockroaches, very thin walls, stains on the carpet, and cheap porn.

Well, quite.

I think they must have used the Corporate Mission Statement Generator to come up with that :)

[actually, it probably would have made more sense if they had]

That squashedapple do about 20 weddings a weekend, with cheap pay by the hour photography deals. Talk about greed! A tog not turning up was gonna happen one day

here is another one of their websites http://www.onlinepictureproof.com/squashedapple

So for £65 an hour, you get all the RAW images, plus full copyright? Jesus wept.

Going through some of the links posted up earlier, I also see they've been responsible for trying to run a husband & wife firm into the ground by posting bogus reviews

They do that to all their local competition and got bounced by google for doing it. They were posting on photographers google local listings with bogus reports of bad service.

They also go bounced from bridestobe for the wife posing as a bride giving good reviews on the company as if she was a client.

No offence taken and you are right :) I have lots of experience from the B&G's side of it though :)

Since my own wedding, word getting out that I do photography and my rather embarrassing arts and crafts skills I've had several people ask me to help plan their weddings.

From the bride and grooms point of view I have a lot of experience at looking for, meeting and costing photographers. Currently got my bro-in-law asking me to help with theirs, but I get the feeling they are just going to ask me to do it!

Yep, I am at that age now when it seems like everyone is getting married. I keep getting lots of invites to parties etc and always wonder if it's because they want me there or just need my advice/camera :D

is it just me that feels that way?

You never made a mistake? You never spent money on something that wasn`t right? Never been ripped off with shoddy goods or services? You perfect?

The couple thought they had booked a wedding tog, they know nothing about photography nor how certain companies work. They got ripped off by ,what appears to be, conmen. Now there may well be a reason the tog did not turn up, whatever the reason it does not excuse them not turning up.

Nobody mentioned class, cheap hotels nor cheap compact cameras.I was merely pointing out to anybody who reads this forum about the dangers of dealing with the company in question. So please remove your head from your anal orifice before spouting any more drivel.

Cheers....:)

I have NEVER made a mistake, and my IQ is perfect!

/kidding.

Geez...chill man. You know this couple or something? And leave my anal orifice alone - really.
