What car do you drive?

I never knew they did the VXR in Estate!

Vauxhall also did a Zafira VXR! My brother had one (Opel badged as it cam in from Ireland). I had it for 2 weeks. Tight suspension and quirky to drive. It surprised a few pepple....

I have a sedate Zafira 1.7 cdt at rhe moment but there is a VXR8 locally showing a for sale sign, whichgrabbing my attention. So as I am not really doing much mileage tbese days and SWMBO makes more useof the Zafira..... watcrh this space. I am finally (after 20 months) over treatment on my badly broken left leg and am ready to go for anew project. My last was a BMW Z4.

2008 X type S 3.0 here as the pleasure car, renault megane 2 1.6vvt for the commute and errands etc. Both cars are reliable, the renault is only now showing a few faults which I've replaced ie the window temic modules, coil packs on 2 cylinders but at 105k on the clock it doesn't bother us as it keeps on going!

I've just inherited t'missus's aging Renault Clio as it's worth next to nowt as a trade-in and only buttons as a private sale with 108k miles and several 'issues'.

I love it - get it up to speed and then don't slow for anything, it's all about maintaining momentum. Plus it's a doddle to park compared to my old Saab 95 and still returns 40+ mpg :D

I hardly drive our car, use the van instead. Mrs wants a fresh one and fancys a Nissan Juke. Always thought them a butt ugly but been out in one today and quite like it. Got some nice functions and the 1.2 ltr engine is nippy enough for us. We have a 207 Soft top we bought on a whim, big mistake but you live and learn. Nice car for someone else, 2 year old with 5000 on the clock, like the day it came out of the showroom.

Apparently it's now a Delica 4x4, it's rusty, the turbo constantly makes a noise like there is a elephant in the midst of it's death throws, 10 years too old for purpose, and the turning circle makes me feel ill. If you want me I will be sobbing in the corner.

It's ace. As much fun as my mk1 MX-5 used to be and with the Mountune kit it's as powerful as the original M3 :)

We have a 4 year old Kia Carens, a 14 year old Citroen Picasso 2l diesel and a Series 1 Land Rover, built the year I was born.
And for fun we have an 18 month old AutoSleeper Broadway FB motorhome. Unfortunately, even though it's a Peugeot cab, someone has put a Ford engine in there.......

So a little bump to show off your spanking new motor :p looks smart I must say....

Not sure if the last time I posted I was driving the long dead touran but now I'm about 1,000 miles back into driving my lovely if a little electronically qwerky range rover :p

Nice one, not a patch on the R :p but very nice indeed. It is a good time for hot hatches.

Had her from new and every mile is fun to drive. I would only consider either an Audi RS3 or Mercedes A45 AMG as a replacement as I much prefer higher performance cars.

I've gone up against a few of the a45 boys and even c63 and the likes. I can really recommend the mk7 R at stage 1. It is very good :)

I've changed my daily car since my last post in this thread last year. Now got an 2008 E91 330D. I fancied a bit more fun over the Passat and loving it so far and I bought it with only 35K miles on it. It may not be the M-sport with fancy bumpers and wheels but it has the Msport suspension and rides really nice, even with the run flat tyres which a lot of people detest, but that's just me. A lot has changed mechanically though and it's a nice "sleeper". I've gotten it up to 355bhp and 550lb/ft of torque, amazing feeling from a diesel lol, although it chewed through the original clutch and I had to get wider wheels for the back. The mods I've done are probably considered a stage 3.

Got this just before Christmas. (ex demo with 2.5k on the clock)

Had a Sportage & before that a CRV.
Had the hot hatches in my younger days, but like higher driving position & Auto these days.

That is definitely a unique outlander.

My M135 is due for replacement soon. I'm stuck between the M235 and the 335 Msport. Did look at the new TTS but it's only a 4 pot, and the v6 Jag XE is silly money.

Haha, yeah I haven't seen another exactly the same.
The colour is some sort of 2 pack? In poor light it's very dark blue, but when the sun shines on it, it's quite light.
The side steps make it lower so wouldn't be any use for a serious `off roader`, but I can't see me going too far off the tarmac tbh

Talk about an old post, but this topic has been resurrected (y) How do you find your 330D for towing? You have pretty much the same combo as myself, apart from I have the Mk2 escort. It started off life as a 1.6 mexico, but it's been seriously molested.

It would be nice to use my 330D for towing rather than borrowing my bosses Land Rover, but I haven't got a tow bar fitted, shouldn't cost too much to have one fitted though. They have stupid amounts of torque standard but I've also molested the engine in my 330D as well. It's 355bhp and 550lb/ft of torque now, from the 231bhp and 368lb ft standard. I can push it a lot more yet but I actually want to keep the internals of the engine intact.

My 330D is above, here's my mk2. Old pictures though and they don't exist anywhere apart from an old Photobucket account, should really get some more taken. My garage is cleaner than my house lol. I replaced the old Capri in these pictures with an E34 M5, but sold that just before christmas so it's just this baby in my garage now.

Apart from the roll cage all the work has been done by myself, or a willing friend that's wanted to help me now and again. It's still an ongoing project and I will be with me till I die. I feel like going down a different route with it though. I'm very tempted to try and fit a 2jz in from a toyota supra, but it will lose that classic ford sound.

Family car is a Mazda 6 tourer. 150bhp, 0-60 in 9 secs, handling is brilliant, 40-50mpg even with me driving and £30 road tax a year.
Only drawback is the 19" tyres are around £200 each.

Wifes car is a 2.0 Sportstech Mazda MX-5, small, nippy, easy to park and a roof that goes up and down in 12 secs.

it's quite quick, 0-60 in a knats appendage over 4 secs, 0 to one mile in 31 secs, going through the timing at 177mph. Top speed I've not found out yet, bruntingthorpe was a little short...

very fast, economical and fun. With 83k hard miles, used in all weathers, I wish it still looked like this :)

Does look nice (y), not seen one in person yet.

The paint isn't 2pack (also referred to as 2K), it's water-based and just got a nice pearl in it which gives it the colour change. 2K paint is just a solid colour, mostly found on vans or older cars where you mix the colour with a hardener...horrible stuff lol. IT's what I painted my Mk2 with above. Nice and cheap to paint again for when it gets bashed.

It's also a classic pain in the rear end region. Got a few more stupid things to sort out then it will be driveable again. Last time I took it out, just before Christmas, I snapped a spring on the rear but I can't find the kit I bought in the first place, so it looks like I need to change all the suspension. I also tore all the bolts on the propshaft coupling to the gearbox, so need a new one of them as well. I've got some bits on order, but not the suspension. As soon as I get that sorted I'll be taking it everywhere for new pictures and videos (y)

....Sounds like a case of pushing the performance envelope to the limit. You always need driveability and suspension is something which too many drivers don't pay enough attention to when modifying a car. Handling mods was one of the first things I did - Well, the folks at Volkswagen Racing did as they are far more expert than me. Mine is set up for fast-road and occasional trackday driving.

Aye yours certainly does look the part. I've always been a fan of anything VAG. The only reason I sold my passat is because the 330d was too tempting at the price I got it for and couldn't resist the 3.0l 6pot engine. I know audi make a good v6 too, but I'm a RWD man at heart;), But your Golf does sound hell of a lot of fun!

....Horses-for-Courses as always :). My Golf, being a 5-door, is very practical (my daughter's influence!) - It's not the fastest car on the road of course but has enough performance (270 bhp, Quaife diff etc) to be both fun and make progress safely. It's also comfortable and I have several driven 750-mile journeys in Europe with no stress at all. With performance comes responsibility.

Perfect all rounder then. No matter what car I get I need an estate. Need bigger than what I have now really but it will do for now.

....Audi RS6 Avant 'autobahn stormer'! Sportec performance mods can potentially offer you 190 mph with handling to match. 'Avant' is Audi-speak for 'Estate' but somehow I'm sure you already know that.

Slightly less aggressive is the S4 Avant which I was lent for a while. I couldn't get more than 19.4 mpg out of her as I enjoyed her so much - Good even on country B-roads. Was fully loaded with the options including Sports Differential so it was even possible to flick the back out.

I would, but as well as needing an estate I need a diesel for my daily driver lol. My boss has an rs6 avant. It's beautiful and sounds even better than it looks with the v10.

I had an audi rs2 avant for a while but I got offered a stupid amount for it that I couldn't resist. Rare as hens teeth them now. Especially the one I had, blue and right hand drive with 40k miles.

Sold my MPS6 last year, it was becoming too expensive to run with that damn suspension and even though the mpg was good for the car it was, the big diesels could outmatch it without causing an international oil epidemic. If I'm honest with myself I'm not going to get a car that will give me the same thrill as the bike unless I part with serious cash. So it's back to Honda with an '08 CR-V diesel. Decent enough SUV and good for the family. Enjoying the comfort lol Wish they did it in a 2.4 like my Accord but not to be in the UK. She dealt with the snow and ice with ease and just like my '05 Accord she recently sailed through her MOT with nothing wrong so can't complain about Honda's reliability.

Here she is enjoying a lovely day in Arran.

Came across an old scanned in photo from when I was in my mid-20's on Donington! Sweet memories although I low sided at 70mph! :$

What was wrong with the suspension on your MPS6? A friend of mine has one and he's having nothing but problems with his.

I think it's mainly the bushes which aren't strong enough the weight and power. In less than a year I replaced almost the whole suspension including the springs, it was crazy! Unfortunately the poly bushes were mainly available for the MPS3. The rear diff mount bushes had to be replaced also, another weak point. It only had 30k on the clock.

You could jack the car up, take the wheel off and grab an arm and literally move it about like stirring soup and this was after fitting a brand new arm and bush! When I tried to do the same thing with my Accord you could hardly move it even with a breaker bar. Don't get me wrong, the handling was awesome but I got the fear every time I hit a pot hole in case it wrecked something. On the plus side, although there was very little poly bushes available there was plenty of 3rd party Febi etc bushes and arms available so if doing it yourself it wasn't massively expensive compared to using OEM parts, although the rear diff mount bushes was a huge job so I got a garage to do that. The rest I did myself but still a pain plus you would have to get a 4 wheel alignment done after most of the jobs so that's another £80-£100 each time.

There was also the timing chain and VVT issue which I didn't experience but knew to expect. That would be another £300-400. The fuel pump internals would only be good to about 300bhp so that would limit remapping unless willing to spend another £150-£300. Annoying because the AWD would allow you to put a lot more power down than a FWD without the dreading torque steer.

But for a 2.3L Turbo the performance was seriously impressive considering the car weighed just under 1.7T and the Haldex Gen 2 AWD was also excellent. I found it handled best with Vredestein Sessanta tyres on it which were reasonably priced considering the uncommon tyre size the car used.

A nice sleeper of a car but due to the age there were too many newer cars which could match or take it and they would have lower VED and better fuel economy. Just didn't make it worth it anymore. If they come out with a new one using that Skyactiv engine then it could be a game changer in that class of car due to the economy factor. It's unlikely though but I've heard there may be a new 2.5 MPS3 and it could have 325BHP so I would expect it will be modded to well over 400BHP.

I'm looking forward to seeing the new Civic Type R, especially as it uses a dual axis strut which I believe will help reduce torque steer considerably.
