As some have you have may have read I'm having my first exhibition in a couple of months and I'm thinking of buying a bigger printer.

It needs to print a minimum of A3 and bigger if possible. I want to be able to switch from colour to B&W easily and have around £500 to play with.

Any hints or tips welcome :)

Epson 2880, comes in around £500 and has 5 colour, 3 black ink carts (light light black, light black and photo/matte black). You can fit matte or photo black to suit your paper.

Hi Bruja,
What about the Canon Pixma 9500 ?
From what I have read, it seems to do the business, and doesn't have the reported nozzle blocking problems of the Epson, or the need to be powered up all the time that the HP 9180 has.
However, this is just based on what I have been reading - anyone know more based on fact ?

you'llnot get anything bigger than A3 for £500. if you need bigger may I suggest you get them printed by a company

So what's it going to cost me to go bigger? I really am a novice at this, and stuck in deepest Spain there's not a lot of places to go and check stuff out and most places don't even have websites yet! We are about 20 years behind for web retailing so this forum is my only hope of finding stuff out from people who actually use the gear.

i love my canon pixma pro i9000

I'd say get them printed by pros. DIY printing always seems to end up taking hours and hours out of your life and costing a fortune. Find yourself and good printer.

sorry, LOL, Very simple, I use canon inks and canon pro paper so i dont cut corners, i use the profiles for the paper from canon, and with no messing around or reprinting endlessly my pictures come out crystal clear and the same colours as they look on my calibrated screen, i would say it probably is slightly dearer than labs, but i get my perfect A3 prints in about 4 minutes, i have always printed my own and for about £350 its the best printer i have had, even beats my £62,000 digital press at work :) but that does 25 A3's a minute ;)

cheapest I can find it is on Ebuyer...........

sorry i can get the vat back through the company so i should have taken that in to account

Now, just to butt in again, what difference does it make using pigment inks and whatever the other sort are called - the i9000 uses 'normal' ink, but the 9500 uses pigment inks. From what I am learning, pigment inks last longer and look better, but what does longer and better mean ?

BadgerUK - I live close to Bruja, and one of our problems is the post - I use LeeP at togsprint as much as possible, but only when I am in the UK to collect and can carry back prints when I fly back to Spain. Both Bruja and I have times when we need prints quickly, and I have suffered, as has LeeP, when he has sent me prints that have failed to arrive - not his fault, but a big one for me. To be honest here, Bruja has offered to let me use her new printer, hence my interest...!

Cannockwolf - any input on running costs - I know I would not be able to answer that, but does it drink ink, or does it seem reasonable ?

Again, from what I am learning, it seems that pigment ink printers need to be kept powered up to avoid clogging - is this just pigment types or what ?

Both the Canon and the Epson are A3+ so will print a bit bigger than A3.

I wouldn't have a clue tbh, its pretty middle of the road on how quickly it eats cartridges, i would guesstimate @ about 400 6x4's for a set of inks? but i could be completely wrong
