What was your first camera?

Well like one or two others my first was a Zenith circa 1976 ...... went for the EM over the E as it had the advantage of an automatic diaphragm i.e. you did not have to stop down manually before taking the shot ......... a fantastic leap in technology ;)

My first camera was an Ilford Sportsman. I won a competition with it in the under 14's category...

Ignoring the Kodak Instamatic 126's, my first real camera was a Topcon IC1 auto SLR. As a starter camera it was quite good.

My frst camera was when I was 11, a 110 film camera that might have been a vivitar, it certainly began with a 'v', and I loved it, took all sorts of rubbish pictures :D somethings never change [before anyone else says it :p ]

Well there ya go... small world, lol. I couldv`e written the exact same as I got my first camera aged about 11/12 and it was a 110 film camera and I`m almost cetain it was a vivitar. :D

First "real" camera I got though was a Fujica STX-1 when I was about 13/14 I think (which I still have)

:)

Mine IS a Panasonic Lumix FZ8. End of line clearance bargain i got a couple of months ago from Comet.£135 inc 1mb mem card and boy am i getting some use out of it. Up until now ive only borrowed cameras so all this snapping lark is a bit of an epiphany.

I never owned a film camera but the first digital one i had was a Pentax Optio S6, still got it somewhere but the focus motor has gone. A nice little compact though.

Mine was a Kodak Brownie 127. My first 35mm was a Voigtlander Vitoret, it cost me £12; I was 14 at the time a lot of pocket money in those days.

My first camera... that was not a compact... ie... when I got serious about photography was a pentax K1000... My grandad gave it to me and I must say using a fully manual camera like that is def the best way to understand and pick up the basics of photography!

I can't for the life of me remember what my first film camera was, which is strange. Apparently you're always supposed to remember your first. I think it was a Braun. Got it secondhand in the early 70s. Took those 126 cartridges. Then it was replaced by a new Zenith B at £25. Not the E with the meter for the pussies. This was guesswork all the way. I still have it and as I type I'm half way putting another film through it for the first time in over 30 years.

My first digital was a Casio QV7000 bought in 1998. A huge 1.2mp for £650. I loved it because it had this big swivel screen. It only lasted a few months and Casio swapped it for a newer QV2000 uinder warranty. I missed the 7000 and a couple of years ago found one on ebay and bought it. It's amazing how antiquated it feels now. The refresh rate on the screen is so slow I could draw it quicker with pencil and paper.

I'm with Alby... though late 60's is pushing it for me at my tender age ;)

Mine was just like this...

...and yes, the flashes rotated. They had a little metal pin that you could flick up when the flash was off the camera, to fire them off. Not advisable though as they often melted the plastic! :D

Same here! Then I saved up for an Oly OM1-n. Boy, I loved that camera. I had my dad's old 400mm manual lens mounted up to an old stock from an air-rifle so I could hold it steady, and I thought I was the canines knackers

It came at Christmas with a neck cord and a grey/black speckled soft plastic button down case/bag----------------The Kodak Brownie 127-----------Brilliant !!!

Kodak Brownie 127, followed by 126/110.
First SLR was a Zenit in mid 70's.

A Brownie Box camera until I was bought an Agfa Silette 35mm for my 21st Birthday present (1954).

I used to pocess all the Brownie films myself in the school dark room until I left school.

It was a Kodak disc camera for me in the early 1980's. It ended up being passed on to my eldest son & he only stopped using it because the films it used were discontinued.

Mine was a little thing that took 126 film. It was one that you would get free from Supasnaps when you got a film developed. I'd have been somewhere between the ages of 3 and 5 (I can't remember ever not having a camera) Then when I was about 8 I bought myself a small sleek little compact thing. It took cartridge film but it didn't produce square images so I'm not too sure what film it was (I thought it was 110). Then I bought myself another camera which took 35mm film. Just a point and shoot no zoom etc. Then when I was 18 I got a Fujifilm S5000 (I think) and that was my first "proper" camera (in my eyes anyway) I got a Practika SLR when I started college and then got the Canon 400D a year and a half ago.

Umm...you only wanted the first camera didn't you

I started with my Dads box brownie, but my first "proper" camera was a Cosmic 35 (35mm) which I still have somewhere. Wayne

mine was a praktica MTL5 then a pentax me super, canon 500n,canon eos1,canon eos1N,and now a canon40D ;)

Snap :) 1978 ish!

Ooh, mine was a little later than that, probably around 1985 or so... I used to run mostly B&W film, as we had a darkroom in the garage which kept costs down (at least that's what my dad told my mum :) )

I wish I had kept it now though, just as a keepsake kinda thing...

First camera that I can remember was..............

Pentax ME Super, great camera for learning the ropes.

Mine was a Kodak Brownie 127 - Looks like the same photo AliB has posted, but I wont have picked it up until the late 70's.
I still have it, I had it out of the cupboard about 20mins ago looking for something else, my first polaroid camera!!

Mine was a silver point and shoot Halina 36 exp camera, quite boxy rectangular shape from Argos, £20 IIRC

First DSLR was a Canon 400D :)

First camera i bought was a Zenit E (a lot further back than i care to remember, as was still at school lol), then Canon AE1 Program (1984, Still got it), then Canon EOS50E (still got it) then 20D, 1d Mk3 and 50D lol

It was a Kodak disc camera for me in the early 1980's. It ended up being passed on to my eldest son & he only stopped using it because the films it used were discontinued.

Oooh, disc cameras - I remember them! My sister had one. It produced shocking photos, really really bad! :shake:

Just not a big enough frame I suppose. My clunky old 126 camera provided much better photos, even though it was about 15 years older than the new fangled disc camera.

Mummy just bought me a 1DS MK3 for my first camera :)

of course im joking.... :P :bonk:

Exa Exacta, I'f I remember ,the mirror locked up after shutter fired and didn't return till you wound on again.

Next and most loved was the Olympus OM1n....lovely little camera.

Lent it some-one and never saw it again....:shake:

I hade the auto wind on mine.

I recall having a 110 camera, or probably a selection of them that I nicked from my sisters. I then has a Trip MD - which was the first I bought. The best photo I took with it was on the Poole Harbour Ferry on my Geography Degree field trip and I used a lens from my sunglasses as a filter to give it a good orange glow. Since then an APS film camera and then the two in my bag on here.

However my 3 yer old and five year old got one each of these for chrimbo:

I know they are carp, but they play the games and love them, although still try and nick my cameras. How times change.....

When I was about 11 or 12 in 1972/3 I had some birthday money, I wanted a camera or a mammod steam traction engine, I got to the model shop 1st.

I bought a secondhand zenith when I was about 14 , I don't have the zenith but I do still have the traction engine.

My son was being taught about steam power at school so I offered to let them have a look at my steam engine, they took it but health and safety stopped them from firing it up :(

If I still had the zenith they probably wouldn't have been allowed to take a photo with it on school grounds.:bang:

Centon k200... It was given to me with a 50mm prime ive still got it but its gathering lots of dust :D

CENTON-K200_thumb.jpg

Olympus OM-1n, bought it when I was 14, sold it when I was 42. Just wish I could find all my old photos, all have been mis-placed during house moves.
