I just got my first L today in the 16-35 L 2.8. A very late starter considering i've had a Canon EOS 30 since 2001 and a 30D since 2006.

So, what is your first L Glass and how long did it take you to get one?

p.s. Next L glass, 24-70 L 2.8 (y)

p.p.s. suppose Nikonites can do the Gold Ring thing.

My first was a 100-400, followed by the 24-105 :)

100-400 is hardly off my camera these days tbh

Pleased with it?

I'm yet to purchase my first L... just got to get my head around the extra £££ ;)

Mine was the 70-200 f4L then the 400f5.6L.

I will know truly once I put it through it's paces, at the moment i am glad to have my first L Glass in the focal length that i wanted not to mention it's both crop and FF compatible.

Mine was the 24-105L which was then replaced by the 24-70L. Then got a 300L then also a 17-40L.

Next is the 200 1.8L (rented for a few days).

First was a 70-200F4, which I still love using. Post that was a 400mm F5.6, and last year a 17-40, which was somewhat useful today in snow, as it's weather sealed.

Well, if you can "L", and Nikonites can "Gold Ring", then Sigma users can "EX" ;)

First EX was the 70-200mm f/2.8. Gorgeous lens, well built, sharp, and altogether impressive. My brother bought it, and it's still going strong!

24-105 followed by the 17-40 which is an absolutely cracking lens.

70-200 f/2.8 for me. Waiting for Canon to release a 24-105 f/2.8 :D

Had a 17-40 but wan'ts impressed, sold it to fund my 10-22mm and 430EX II and had enough left for a couple of pints (bargain!)

My first was a 70-200 F4 IS, after that the 100-400.

Next one will be a 24-70

17-40 f4L. Found myself very dissapointed and moved it on quickly. Next was a 24-105

Cheers,
James

Mine was a Canon EF400mm f2.8, waited long enough to get it, but made the fatal mistake of selling it,:bonk::bonk: Since then had a ef 200 f1.8, ef 70-200 f2.8,
But now have only got a ef 300 f2.8, ef100-400 f5.6, ef 500 f4.5, and still keep kicking myself for selling the 400 f2.8. :bang::bang::bang:

mine was the Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, it blew me away on how sharp and fast a lens could be, since then i have swapped the rest over to the same standard, if i could afford it i would swap my 80-400mm for the 200-400mm but 'it aint never gonna happen!' LOL

mine was a 70-200mm f/2.8, got it in dec - 10 months after my first dslr.LOVE IT! its my only one.....:crying:

My first, and only L lens (for the moment at least) is the 100-400 and I am certainly very pleased with it.

Next will be the 24-105, but should it come with a 5D mk11!

My first L lens was a 70-200 F4, next came a 24-105 F4, I want a 17-40 next. I think I'm addicted now.

My first was a 70-200 F4 IS, followed by a 100-400 IS. I love em both to bits, now I'm thinking something a bit shorter, but I don't know what yet!

Sod that, I would kick myself for selling the 200 1.8L. Rare as diamonds!

In 2001 I bought an EOS-3, 28-70L and 200L and didn't get on with them and sold them quite quickly. I went back to using New F-1s but mainly medium format. I'm fairly late making the switch to digital but now have got used to AF and have upgraded to L lenses.

Bought a second hand 70-200 Lf4 IS on the site before Xmas.
Cracking lens and a great deal (y)
Now want wide angle but cannot decide which

I got a 100-400 within a few days of getting my first DSLR, Canon 20D just over 3 years ago.

After that I got Sigma & 1 Tamron, until January 2009 when I bought all my other L gear in the last 3 weeks.

Went for the 80-200mm 2.8 Magic Drainpipe second hand (which you have to be a bit patient to find a good one I found), rather than the F4 70-200mm. If I could have afforded it, I would have probably got the F4 80-200mm IS, but having a 2.8 for me was the best way to get the shutter speeds.

A punt from a lack or warranty/service point of view for a lens made in like 1994, but my god what a stunning lens and personally prefer the the black body over the white...

17-40 f4L. Found myself very dissapointed and moved it on quickly. Next was a 24-105

The 17-40 isn't very good.

Frankly "L" is just marketing gimmick.

The non "L" 10-22 is a much much better lens. Not sure why Canon can do such good crop factors wides, but don't manage it in full frame.

First one for me was the 70-200 f/4 it was a lovely lens but I had the same length in a sigma f/2.8 and I needed the f/2.8 so the L was sold to contribute to my next one which was the 100-400

My first L lens was the Canon 70-200mm F2.8 and it's great. It's pin sharp and fast. I also managed to get a 500mm F4.5 L last year for my nature photography and that's even better (upgraded from a Bigma) Build quality and optics of both are superb.

EF 70-200 f2.8 IS was first

21.06.2006 Canon EOS 30D £835.99
04.07.2007 EFs 17-55 2.8 IS & EF 70-200 2.8 L IS £1,595.00 for both :)

Now just watching the Canon rummer mill about a 100-400 L f4 IS

70-200 F4 would like for it to have been a 300mm or a 100-400 but im still so happy with it :D

Still waiting for my first L
Thinking about upgrading the Sigma 24-70ex to a Canon 24-70L
Was also considering a 24-105L and keeping the Sigma.... Oh the choices and not enough cash :( lol

First L was the 24-105 which I bought in New Zealand for £500 last summer. Got the 70-200 f/2.8 a month ago and only used it a few times, although it is staying firmly put in my camera bag after savif up for it for so long.

Next on the list is to trade my 10-20mm Sigma for the 16-35 f/2.8 and get rid of the 24-105 for the 24-70 f/2.8...
