What's happened to Flickr?

Ha, of course :D

Some of it was full on though, if you get me. Not just naked bodies but physical.

I've not seen a lot of that TBH. There's a couple of 'art' groups that invite submission of my landscape work occasionally, and in one there's the odd photo that's a bit 'in depth', but fortunately not much. I still occasionally post to Ello, but when tumblr booted off all the porn pirates quite a number tried to make it tumblr II - they had to quickly re-do the rules about penetration & violence, and it wasn't pretty - they still walk a fine line between art and porn, but at least that's mostly NSFW tagged and it doesn't have to be seen.

It was very strange at the time, there seemed to be a lot of it and it would just appear if you typed the wrong thing. I think Flickr is policed a bit better these days though, this would have been back when it was much more a free for all.

Working well for me #1 in explore today.
well done
how do i see your shot Geoff?
cant really resolve what explore might mean as a "group"...or does it have limited access?
cheers

Browse to Flickr.

Top bar, LHS choose 'Explore'. Go to the bottom of the page full of todays 'explored' photographs and scroll through to find the date Goeff posted his comment - should be the top image, one with cooling towers and mistiness. at dusk.

I still can't see my own banner photo or my buddy icon...... Been like that for months.

And now neither way is uploading........ May as well quit with the editing & pour a JD :)

Well the app works fine on my phone, but I can't log into it on my iPad Mini using the same password. I've had the two devices sat next to each other with the password visible so I know I'm entering the correct password.
I can't even get to the log on page on the Flickr website using the safari browser but I can see the rest of the site. Baffling.

It may be a cache issue.

Are they both on the same WiFi connection? If the phone is on 3G or 4G and the iPad mini on WiFi it may be that your router has cached a connection to the old server and rebooting the router (unplug for 1 minute) the router may work.

If both on WiFi it may be the iPad has old data cached internally. See http://osxdaily.com/2012/06/10/delete-site-specific-cookies-ios/ for how to clear data for a specific site, for an app I would be tempted to see if an update is available or try uninstall and reinstall as a possible solution.

thanks again...and geoff also showed the shot on his comment back to me..

where does explore get its material from...i take it now it isnt a sort of "group" thing which one makes a selective entry but a sort of selective process by explorers.....somewhere?
also i can see the variations in photos??

cheers

Artificial 'intelligence'.

A general question to those who use Flickr, do any of you also put your photos anywhere? If so where and why?
I put them on Ipernity (about £40 pa) to have a back up and because I have a friend who uses it. It is not as good as flickr and has a lot less users.

Yes, - in addition to flickr, > facebook, twitter, 500px, instagram, personal website. - Reasoning I have different groups of users who like different subjects and perhaps more importantly, redundancy, If one of the above was turned off tomorrow, I would still be able to reach my user base/audience.

Anyone else still having issues with Flickr? I can upload and share etc but sometimes it seems painfully slow, even just browsing

Still won't allow me change profile or cover images, otherwise it's behaving fine for me atm

I did have quite a struggle getting logged in again on the desktop, my original log-in was with a yahoo email address which I literally never used for anything else so I took the chance to change it to a more normal gmail one.
This seemed to make the other machine go into a circular lop of demanding to use the 'new' email then saying that one wasn't recognised.
Still don't know why the site suddenly changed its mind - I cleared cookies and it was still doing it then suddenly the new email was OK after all.

No it's just you Toby :)

I've been uploading fine through Safari at home and through Chrome at work but IE11 hates it.

It's slow sometimes, though now working.

Thanks for the replies. It's running at full speed again at the mo, but I'm not holding my breath ;)

Is the GEO-tagging broken only for me or are other people experiencing this too?

Basically, it appears I am able to GEO-tag my posts however when going back to the post summary page I see no GEOtag at all.

Honestly at this stage I feel flickr is testing the patience of some of its staunchest supporters (e.g. me). Have to say I have been considering purchasing a pro account but am seriously reconsidering things being what they are. Feeling bad for people who are paying for this level of service.

Check out the support blog for details of what's broken since the migration.

It looks like they are having to fix all number of issues since moving to the new platform. I'm guessing a case of lack of investment in keeping the platform current while under Yahoo's care.
That the new owners are doing all this indicates they believe Flickr has a future.

I assume that the wholesale migration was a pretty big deal. But from what I've seen, it seems apparent that they're working on problems as they reveal themselves. It's pretty good now, and the trend is currently upwards. Have faith!

Long term, though, you can rely on nothing. Decisions are made in boardrooms, business models change.

The most resilient answer might be to be as self-sufficient as possible.

Profile pics [buddy icon] and cover images are now working as normal. It's the little things ... :)

What's going on today .... Adblock is reporting 111,000 ads and is still counting up on my feed...

Just checked, ad block is saying 5 today.

I had this problem too!
I discussed it on another thread, but I eventually sorted it by allowing ads for Flickr only.
It seems to be some kind of glitch that locks up Flickr in some sort of never-ending ad loop....or something!
I'm no tech expert, but allowing ads worked for me.:)

Nothing's happened to Flickr as far as I'm concerned - it's now back to how it was before the mass migration event.

Interestingly, I now see that ipernity has a 'basic' subscription model at £21.75 pa, which allows 5GB storage capacity, etc ... http://www.ipernity.com/club

But all is fugitive, and how much any of this matters in the long term, I struggle to imagine ...
