Where's this light leak coming from?

No
I've got a waterproof Canon Sure Shot https://vintagecameralab.com/canon-sure-shot-wp-1/ that I tried out on holiday recently. Great camera but there's a big light leak up the right side of all the frames. It varies in size and is on both rolls of film I've shot through it. But it can't be coming in through a gap in the casing as the innards of the camera have stayed bone dry.. So what's going on?!

There is a film check window on the back of the WP-1 (which the instructions say is not for underwater use - while the A-1 is, but they seem identical). If the foam seal that should compress against the film canister has gone or degraded that could be your light leak on one side.

The WP-1 isn't WaterProof..?

The Wp-1 is the A1..

I'd googled rather than looking at the actual camera! Yeah, the one I have is the Sure Shot A1, with the underwater macro setting. Good call on the film-check window though; although the seal seems to be in as-new condition I'm going to put some tape over it and give it another go, can't think where else it could get in other than there!

No. The' A1' is a 35mm SLR; the 'Sure Shot A-1' (as it was known in North America) is the waterproof model. (y)

Yeah sorry, I meant the A-1..

"The Canon Sure Shot WP-1 (also sold as the Sure Shot A-1 in North America)"

That is what it says in the manuals - go figure.

While the A-1 is described as an underwater camera and has an underwater macro setting on the dial

Gotcha yeah, that's weird.. It's advertised as waterproof, but not as an underwater camera..

My bad.. Learn something new everyday!
