Hi guys, I need some more help with system parts

which ssd drive around 250gb is best?

OCZ Vertex 3, Crucial M4 or samsung 830

They are all around the same money but I dont know which one I should buy. This will be used in a cad and photo editing workstation.

I will be using with Asus P8Z77-M Pro Intel Z77 and i7-3770K

I think the OCZ vertex 3 is fastest but had firmware issue which now seam to be improved.

Samsung 830 is very reliable but slower than OCZ.

Curcial M4 seams the worst of the 3 but what do I know

Help please before I go mad looking at reviews....

I have a Corsair Force 3 in my MacBook Pro and it's a fantastic drive. I did a load of research before purchasing and looked at the same drives you are, but overall the Force 3 appeared to be best, and also a friend purchased the same drive before i did and had nothing but good comments on it.

I got mine from Scan a few months back.

Dont say that I was looking to reduce my choice.....

I will have a read of yet more reviews. Thanks for your input(y)

Have a look at Andys (arad85) recent posts, has put some very useful advice up recently on ssd

will do, sorry if covering old ground...

Looked at these:

So all 3 drives I have shortlisted look good better than the ocz agility 3 I 1st short listed.

Good drives are:
Corsair Performance Pro (out of my price range)
Samsung 830
OCZ Vertex 3
Crucial M4

Marvell based disks, tend to have a more even performance profile and they have very fast compressed data write times too

So maybe the samsung is the best choice ???

Samsung works well with trim and dont seam to have the slow down issues you get with SandForce.

Could I use this one:

or do I need this one?

Still open to sugestions, thanks all....

TBH, you'll be happy with whichever of those you get. Of the 4 you've listed I'd probably get either the Samsung or Crucial M4 if you're going to use it for storing pictures/videos (incompressible data). If it's a boot frive only, the Vertex is probably the best bet. The differences between the 3 (4 if you include the Corsair) are probably not noticable in real world situations.

As to the two links.. they are the same drive, just with different accessories (neither come with the 3.5" adapter that was next to useless with my Antec 182 case....)

In that case i might as well just go with the cheapest which I think is the samsung unless I can find one of the other for less than £143...

Thanks all

I'm running a Crucial M4 256gb and it's been flawless. Trouble is there's always something a bit better just around the corner, at one time the M4 was the bees knees now it's something else and next week it will be something else again, go with your gut and stop reading reviews ;)

Dunno but mine is the SSD2 version.

They seam to have the same specs and interface but one is 3mm slimer and a bit cheaper.

Why make two types of the same product???

OCZ drives are fine with later firmware. I've got a Vertex 3 and Agility 3, no problems with the agility, little trouble with Vertex initially was totally fixed after update.
