Wifi SD cards talking to Iphone

I'm aware of the (newish) wifi SD cards (Eye-fi) http://uk.eye.fi/

They have also brought out an Iphone app http://uk.eye.fi/products/iphone?postTabs=0

Does this mean, if a Eye-fi card was used in camera, I could send an image wirelessly to the Iphone, and then E-mail that image from my Iphone?

I've tried to understand the implications by reading the info, but it's not clear if it would do this.

If it could, being able to take and send images in the field without needing a laptop would be a strong reason to purchase such a card.

Apologies if this is in the wrong section, as it doesn't seem to fit neatly into any?

my understanding is that if the eyefi card and the iphone are connected to the same wifi then yes.....

I am pretty sure though have to be both connected to same wifi - i.e. not bluetooth, so not the same as tethered, so unless your "field" had an open wifi conection, no.

Does that help? Or have I confused you more?

I think so, it looks if it won't work, that is, camera talking to iphone directly (wirelessly) then sending via E-mail (over 3G or 2G nework) to wherever needed.

reading through it, it looks like the iphone app just allows the iphone itself to send pics to the same place as your eyefi card would fromm your camera, doesnt allow the camera to talk to the iphone at all. Which is a shame really, that would be ideal !

Or buy a HTC HD2 as well. it can run as a wireless access point (although does not do the battery life much good).

So, Iphone in one pocket, HTC HD2 in another and bobs your uncle.

Even better if someone came up with the same app for the HTC.

EDIT- it seems there might be one 'Eyefi droid' will look into this, it looks like it even adds GPS details to the pictures.

After speaking to 2 people at work who have the HTC, I will be upgrading to one very soon

After querying the issue with Eye-fi they say the 'Toshiba TG01 phone ' will receive images wirelessly from the SD card, or you could just plug a card reader into the TG01 as it has a mini USB port.

Get the google nexus one (Or wait for the HTC Desire). Same processor. Better screen (although slightly smaller). Better OS. Better memory integration.

I solf my HD2 because windows annoyed the hell out of me.

If you jailbreak your iphone you can run MyWi to create a WiFi hotspot which your wifi sd card could connect to
