These birds are from all over and brought in by citizens who
found them in distress, misery, sometimes agony.

Today again, I was shooting (part of my "no fee" social projects)
the local Wildlife Rescue and Helmut (the operator in charge) was
very happy to show and tell me about his
protégés.

1
This lovely young female was found laying in a close by field by a farmer.
Helmut pulled out the little plastic bag she choked on trying to swallow a mouse.
There since two days and doing much better she was released this morning.
She decided to stay for the day —maybe more— but she's free to go!

This one attracted the attention of a old lady walking her dog near the park about a mount ago.
The Labrador came very close to the stork and stayed until the lady arrived and alerted Helmut
who was told of a bird missing a leg! This bird will probably chose to stay for its lifetime…we'll see.

This young one was released three days ago by Helmut
who took care of a minor wing injury.

…an other very similar case. This young bird released yesterday.

5

This fellow was there last year. He will stay as he has lost most of his left wing.

6

Arrived three weeks ago, this patient will hopefully fly
in an other week or so… a more important wing injury.

7

A permanent resident, non reparable for wing injury,
got used to share its living quarters with the chickens.

This female will never fly anymore but a young fellow found her irresistible
and decided to stay with her. There are three eggs in the nest and "he is a
very good provider" says Helmut. He flies at will and brings her treats!

Thanks for your comment Richard…
glad their story moved you!

wonderful

amid the chaos of the world today - such a story is uplifting.....thank you

keep with this Daniel - that's what it is all about

very worthwhile if you can be part of it

Ah, how wonderful! Number 1, 3,4,8... are stunning, but love them all! It's so important to help ventures like this and photography is where they usually suffer. Marvellous work :)

Thanks John, glad you enjoyed!

Mind you, this is very interesting work too and far less
adrenaline rushes than in Bosnia, 20 + years ago!

Well done @Kodiak Qc - its heartwarming amongst all the nonsense and greed around the world that some people care about the things that really matter and your photos portray this very well.

keep with this Daniel

Thanks, both of you… I surely believe in that cause.

I really enjoyed the 'back story' and I'm so pleased to hear there are people in this world who make a place for animals who might not survive on their own

A lovely series Kodiak and excellent work, it's always nice to see and hear people going out of there way to help wildlife, particularly when man is more often the cause of their plight.....but that's another story!
Cheeky to ask I know - but it would be good if you could do another one of these in 6 months time.

What a great project and well described, it added to the images for me :)

Glad I took the time, to check this thread, some wonderful images.

Sorry I overlooked your reply, Maria!

None of these birds would have survived a day (but by luck)
to their faith without Helmut and, most importantly, the people
how will take the time to report the cases.

Thanks for dropping by.
