Wireless !!! Help needed!!!

If the pairing button no worky is the wep key not printed on the livebox somewhere?

we have

Choose a wireless network..

but in the screen it says

windows cannot configure this wireless connection

I've had a Belkin adaptor before and they are a **** to set up !

This is the heart of the problem as you need Windows to do the configuration.

I'm guessing that you're using Windows XP or Vista, probably the former to get that error.

I can't remember exactly what I did (sorry i know that is not much help). I know that I uninstalled both the adaptor software and the ISP software first.
I think I then plugged the adaptor in and used a Network Connection Wizard (or similar). The important step is where it asks if you want Windows to configure the network for you and you take this route. You may also get this option within the adaptor software when you set it up.

Sorry to be vague and I hope others can help more with this approach. If all else fails it's worth a try as nothing else is working.

I still think it's the security key, the fact that the belkin is picking up the livebox would suggest it is installed ok.

Is the key printed on the livebox?

Sorry buddy Yes the wep key is printed on the bottom of the live box ? IS this different to the encyrtion key ?

md:thinking:

Nope it is the encryption key

I had a similar issue connecting my sons laptop to our home network. Kept entering the wep key and it wouldnt connect. What I did was to convert the WEP key to a hexidecimal key, you can do this with this converter, type in your WEP key in the bottom box and when its converted it, copy and past it. This may work, it did for sons lappy.

the key is possibly case sensitive

I thought this ... the pc told me the caps lock was on and this may interfere

should i try it with caps on do ya think...

md

No, I would leave caps lock off.

I would try it as it is written on the livebox

I have the same setup as you dave. belkin wireless adapter in laptop, and orange livebox as modem router.

I didnt have any probs setting up.

Have you tried turning off the WEP and security for a moment on the router... calling it OPEN and trying to connect without a wep key.

If it connects then we know what the problem is.

Your Livebox WEP is Upper Case.....that's why my first attempt failed when I was at your place.

personally id uninstall the belkin wireless application as youve found out it can be more hassle than its worth, let windows manage the wireless network.

that and liveboxes are probably the worst routers out there..

but youve got it working so maybe worth letting sleeping dogs lay lol

I would leave it well alone now working, I am sure they make these things difficult just to give some of us jobs :)

;) Sorry if i missed some replies earlier i was going back and forth on the laptops...

I need the belkin to get the internet on that laptop " its a old one"

you can just install the driver and not the wireless app so that windows manages the wireless, but its working so not too important (itll just use up a bit more system resources).
