Yorkshire Dales in Portrait

[JRSS]

A couple from my walk in the Dales today that seem to work better in portrait rather than landscape.
I realise they are not going to be award winners but do they work compositionally? Any comments appreciated as my landscape photography is an area I'm keen to improve.

Very nice Jonathan.

I think I might have upped the exposure a bit but then again, for all I know these pictures are accurate captures of the scene on the day and I do like them as they are.

I usually take a fewer percentage of portrait orientation pictures compared to landscape but of course it does suit some compositions and well done for spotting these

I like Nr1. The ladder goes well with the format. In the second, the road going out and then back into the frame on the lower right side bothers me a bit.

The first is definitely the better, though I'd up the exposure a little (without blowing out the sky), and then boost the contrast.
