I always find it really interesting that a thousand photographers can take a thousand photos each of NYC and it always ends up looking dramatically different depending on their perspectives.
It's a nice shot, maybe if you got down at the same level as the subject and shot the light bursting through the leaves you might get something really interesting.
Perhaps a bit too much vignette...but the more I look at it the better it gets. The only criticism I have is that it's not 100% straight. My OCD can't deal with this! :P
WOW @ number 3, Peak District isn't far from me, got to get there sometime.
I'm not sure about the sepia filter on the third one but I do love the layers of composition.
Your colours are great, you can really tell it's from the 5D II.
If these haven't been retouched I wouldn't even bother, you got great light.
I'd say number 1 is the best, great character! :)
Without catchlights makes people look kind of like inanimate puppets, in fact photographers usually put them in to make eyes look more alive. I'd say your original shot it much better.
