Rolandtrade: safe or fraud?

here

London Branch
11 Tokenhouse Yard
London, EC2R 7AS
United Kingdom

Thats just one of their offices, its not a shop. As I said in a previous post I know that address well and its an office block in the City of London.
Either thats their Registered Address i.e. where their accountants/auditors are based(which I sort of doubt) or they've just made it up.

The Tokenhouse 'site' is as reported above just a block of serviced offices aimed at the banking and IT sector.

Also unlike their other "international site there are no contact numbers for that address ~ so if someone is nearby it would be interesting if they had the time to popin and look the occupants list for the block or indeed ask if Roland are indeed registerred as occupants???

Caveat emptor :(

I live in The Hague, The Netherlands, near their 'head office'

I will have a look tomorrow about the address, but as what I know, it is not the best neighbourhood for a 'head office'. It is a little bit 'The Bronx' of The Hague, so not quite reliable if you ask me.

Netherlands Head Office

hello i am new to the forum I'm from Spain so my translation is not very good. I followed this forum since I also shop at the store two weeks ago and asked follow-up Ready for dispatch says, I'm willing to put a complaint from Spain if I get the order or is a fake, have dismantled if among all these datasheets fraudulently.:bonk:

Hello, I bought a camera 30th November, when I read the forum I realised that it´s a fraud. Now I will wait some days more if somebody of you receive a "present" if not I´ve taken copies of the web and go to the police. Juandmm no te golpees demasiado fuerte.

Wouldn't it be a good idea for those people who are still waiting for their orders to reach a "despatch" stage to simply go to their bank/credit card company and make a charge back? I wouldn't be waiting around another week or so before asking Rolandtrade for a refund after what I've read here. And I think simply hoping that they'll come good after what has been discussed is wishful and expensive thinking

I agree with Nifkin, Sure one or two delayed orders is not issue, but i'm sure you guys all bought something different.

Even the smallest of businesses would keep stock of some of the popular stuff. They can't be taking an order and asking manufacturer to send them one before they send one to you.

i am a very sad buyer too.i didn't see this forum before i ordered and paid the stuff.I hope we get our stuff or our money.
My status is due from supplier, but i sent an e mail what means that but get no anwser.
I also told this peter claus that i will report him or rolandtrade to the police....

Any good sugestions, what to do?
thanks

Matej

yes ok. but i am from slovenia and i had to pay per transaction to their account, i can't stop the transaction i made the transaction on 2. december the money is on their accont.!!
****!!!
should i alert the police?
slovenian one or NL?

Hi there
My status now says ' being packed' .....What a joke.
Peter Claus (Clous) does not respond to any of my emails. Time to go to the police...I will go to the Netherlands to report it, don't think they will do much in ireland. Does anyone know whether it would be worth reporting it to the HBSC bank in London (the account where my money went)....or would banks not be allowed to do anthing?

Thanks

No offence intended, but it would help if you explain how you made your payment; did you pay by cash into their bank account? I'm afraid that due to the relatively small amounts each person here is paying for a given item, there's not going to be a great deal the police in any country are going to do with regards to pursuing an international seller; The Met Police in London will only really get involved if the amounts are upwards of £3,000.

Unfortunately, I think this is a sharp lesson to those involved that you shouldn't throw money at an online retailer that you've never heard of before, especially when their prices appear too good to be true; you wouldn't hand over £100s to a complete stranger, so why do it on a website? At the very least do a bit of research and find out who you're buying from. And always use a credit card for payment to protect your transaction (y)

UPDATE
======

Today, I visited the "London office" of Rolandtrade in my official capacity. They do not exist, and have never used the office there. The present occupants - a perfectly legitimate collection of above-board companies - have never heard of them. They are aware that Rolandtrade have been using their address on their website. The company is utterly fraudulent.

This is, as far as I'm concerned, now a police matter. I will be requesting details via PM from users of this forum to be sent to my official work email address so that I can put a report together - whether any investigation will be from the Metropolitan Police (my force) or City of London (owing to the location of Tokenhouse Yard) is undecided at present. If I haven't contacted you, please send me a PM in case I've missed you. Please note, I do need people to come forward - how much you spent, how much has been taken, etc. I cannot do this on my own, as I have not been a victim. Also - I can only really help UK customers. Victims in foreign countries, I'm afraid, will have to rely on your local forces.

Do not, under any circumstances, buy any goods from Rolandtrade.

As luck would have it, nobody who has bought goods from Rolandtrade on this forum is receiving Private Messages. In order to get some sort of response, I will post my PM here and leave the details unedited until tomorrow, so that I don't get flooded with Spam or junk phone calls.

Dear all,

As you may be aware, I am a regular user of these forums. However, I am also a police officer, and I followed your comments on Rolandtrade with some interest, so much so that earlier on today I visited their "London office" in person, in an official capacity. They do not exist, and are using the address to give the company an air of legitimacy. The genuine company at that address is worries about the implications for their business, and is supportive of police action.

In order to stand a chance of taking action against Rolandtrade, I need to speak to people who have used the company and obtain details of your dealings with them. Names, addresses, goods purchased and total cost would be good.

I realise that I am contacting you via an internet forum. I do not expect you to send me such details back via PM. I would ask that you contact me in one of the following ways:

1) Email: (now removed from post - 09/12/09)
2) Phone: (now removed from post - 09/12/09)
3) Switchboard: (now removed from post - 09/12/09)

My intention is to report the matter and get it immediately into the right hands, whether that be with the Metropolitan Police or City of London Police.

In the meantime, I would urge you to raise this with your credit/debit card companies.

Hi Chris

Though not a 'buyer' as you will see I threw my 2p's worth in.

It is good that you have seen fit to "act officially" but as you say this can only trigger the sequence of events that need to happen but this if the Met or City force units take it up will be acted upon because UK citizens have been affected. I wonder if in your discussion with your colleagues you are able to guide our "foreign cousins" as their best course of action(s)???

On a more general note ~ the rule of thumb that should prevail is "if it looks too good to be true then it likely is not true" ~ always use a credit not a debit card ~ look for the padlock & https clues as to the site security NOTE do click on the padlock and review the certificate firstly for its dates and secondly is the certificate provided by a genuine provider like a bank or Verisign. Now granted the criminal element may still circumvent such precautions but I even check these every time I but from well known 'stores' like Amazon!!!

I hope all you guys get satisfaction, all the best :)

Edit - I wonder if Skydiver79 has had the chance to 'look into' the address in the The Hague???

Luckily I had a bad feeling about the prices and didn't buy. Their website is still up and running, and if you type rolandtrade on yahoo search it is the first site that comes up in the search. I don't know much about how you get to become first in line in a search, but I thought that in would take months at least, if not years.

I wouldn't have thought there would be that many others with the same name. The very first time I put my name into google, my website came out at the top.

Being a victim in Ireland, I transferred money to the Bank Address in London,
do you think it would be helpful (as I do not live in the UK)?
Thanks

Update
=====

Many thanks to those who have emailed me; however, I have to say that by far and away, most people who have contacted me are from outside the UK. I have raised the matter with our SCD6 - Economic and Specialist Crime Command.

I have been informed by a couple of people that their order status has now changed to "Order Shipped" with an estimated delivery time of 3 - 7 days. In order to establish whether this company is truly fraudulent, I am going to have to wait for those 7 days. It may simply be a case that a small, morally questionable but otherwise legitimate, Chinese company is trying to appear larger than it really is with a network of "international" offices.

If no goods arrive at all, then I will have a more solid case for action, as I need to be sure that a crime has actually been committed.

hi ren!

I did a report to our police in slovenia they don't see much interested :-(
the best way is you to call the number +31 70 302 5000 ( the europian police for criminal HQ) and report this froud i allso got an mail from the Rabobank to which i transfered the money and they told me to report it to the police and they will allso report it to their securty department (this is the mail)
Dear Matej,

It seems like fraud, I received one message like yours earlier this week. Please turn to your local Police, I will report it at our security department.

Regards,
webmaster@rabobank.com

You can say that you know more people who are interested to make a report i can drive to nederland to do this report its only 1400 km.:)

I'm happy I did't buy a camera at Rolandtrade.com
I have had sent severel mails to Peter Claus but when I sended the last one I heard nothing more.
The answers he gives are mostly very short. And he do not replay the questions that you have made.
It surprised me that this site is still running.

Hello Peter,

I can’t find a good review about your store. Above this site you see 2 links. What they say there makes me angry to place an order in your store.
Perhaps you can say something positives about your store by signing in on one of these forums at the top of this page
How long exist your web-shop. What is your Chamber of Commerce ( Kamer van Koophandel) number?

What kind of securities do I have when I pay an order by credit card?
From which country will the goods be delivered.
When I call to *** Haag why don’t I get someone at the telephone? They say : please enter the extension followed by the hash key. I don’t know what they mean with that.

When the reviews will get positive I will maybe order a camera.
Isn’t there a site in your country like the Dutch site www.kieskeurig.nl Here you can see what the score is from the shop. http://www.kieskeurig.nl/digitale_spiegelreflexcamera/canon/eos_7d_body/prijzen/347929/#prijzen.

http://www.beslist.nl/elektronica/d...npySlaSe/Canon_EOS_500D_Kit_(18-55mm_IS).html

http://www.thuiswinkelen.nl/consumenten/ All the sites you see above are connected at “home shopping guarantee”
Have your site also such a guarantee?

I hope I will still hear something of you.

Kindly regards,

xxxxx

Hello,
Can you tell me what kind of cost there are coming up when I order a camera at your store?
It has to be delivered in the Netherlands. The warranty of the camera where can I go for it? In Holland or in a foreign country?
I can’t read about clients who has bought a camera at your store. Is there a link to a page where I can find the satisfaction about the deliveries of your firm? Because I’m talking about a lot of money when I will buy a Canon EOD D7 (perhaps 2 when my friend will also) By ordering 2 camera’s can you make a special offer?

I hope to hear as soon as possible from you.

With kindly regards

I have read two days ago about your forum related to ROLANDTRADE. It was relatively too late, because I have ordered a Canon EOS 50D body and paid per bank wire transfer at Nov. 24. Since 3 days I have the status "order shipped". Then I wanted to come in contact with the company and send a message to know about the sending number of my delivery.
A person called "Mr. Clous" (maybe Santa Claus:D) answered me that I should look into my invoice and delivery status! This was the only contact to this company!:wacky:
Yesterday i went to the Austrian police office to lay a complaint against tis company. Afterwards I contacted my bank to cancel the order and stop the bank transfer.:crying:
Do you have another ideas to cancel this swindle?
My next question is, if in your experience somebody in Europe has got the delivery, which was ordered.
Best regards.:)

well, my order status is now "order shipped" which means that in 3-7 days time i should receive my camera...let's see if this is a fraud or not:p

Hi Miss R,
Just to let you know that my order has also been shipped.
Please let me know when you get anything- who knows...

Ren

Please avoid to avoid dissappointment.

I have just been on this site and although at first glance it has an acceptable appearance in fact it has all the hallmarks of a fraud. If the offices do not exist, or nobody answers the phone or even worse you are required to pay by bank transfer then please avoid it. You are giving someone you do not know and cannot get back to - your complete trust.

Some other signs could be the bad English. The fact that the references at the bottom of the screen are more relevant to a computer shop. The site does not actually work all that well, not that much effort has been out into it. It mentions being based in UK and Asia(where) but in the contacts their HQ is supposedly Holland they only (supposedly) have a branch in London. Strange wording again more relevant to a computer web shop on some of the pages. It looks like someone copied another web shop and adapted it. The checkout does not work properly. They only give a fax (with an incorrect country code) for the "Tokyo" office, There in no telephone for the "London" branch. Etc.. Etc.. (there are other oddities).

Even if it were not a fraud with the above level of professionalism and total lack of any solid contact would trust them enough to give them several hundred Euros in the hiope they might ship you something?

I send an email to the bank where I made the payment in UK. Then I received the following message:

Dear Dr. Canatay

Thank you for your e-mail.

I regret that we are unable to assist you in this matter.

May I suggest you to contact the bank where the payment was made from and
request them to make a payment trace on the transaction.

Yours sincerely

So you can make a picture about this company, Now i am waiting to the result of payment trace from my bank.:bonk::bonk::bonk:
