I have damaged the USB socket twice on two different cameras due to an accidental tug.
The disconnection could be due to a loose connection between 'Camera socket and Lead'
Now I secure the cable to the camera body to stop any wriggle at the socket and to prevent damaging another USB socket.
re: writing to the card
I use eos cameras/laptop/vista/lightroom 4.3
When I start tethered capture in Lightroom 9 times out of 10 it does not write to card in camera.
I check this each time I start captured by taking a shot. If the image does not come up on the
rear screen of camera then...
If you use photoshop you could try another way round.
I am assuming you are using an A2 sheet cut in half long ways (210x594mm)
Open up a new page in Photoshop with size 210x594mm @300dpi (just an example)
Now drag your image into the new page and resize it as you see fit to the sheet.

Sorry Henry, I did not recommend you use pigment ink in your printer. That could lead to problems.
I use pigment ink in my printers now but used dye ink when I had a 1290s.
I would recommend you use Jettec Ink. I believe it is originally OCP ink from Germany.
A quick Google and I found this source for your printer (1290s)

I've used OCP pigment ink for a while now and can highly...
Sorry, no I've not tried it. I just send my mono prints straight to the printer through Photoshop.
They look great to me so there was never a need to delve in any further.
I do profile every ink and paper combo and never had a problem.
Epson Advanced Black and White is more for the Mono...
Some bronzing is always a problem. Some papers are better than others for this.
I now mainly use matte papers because of this. For good work I use archival matte and this gives zero bronzing.
I use cheaper paper also when a bit of bronzing does not matter.
I changed from Image Specialist ink...
Hi Ian
I've been using non oem inks in my x2 3800's for at least 5 years with no problems.
These are the same as the 3880 apart for the Light Magenta/Cyan
Good quality ink is a must. Unbranded ink is a real no no.
Good brands to look for are INKTEC (Japan), IMAGE SPECIALISTS (USA) and OCP...
That is one error I made when I built mine. I panic every time children run up it. It's like a kids magnet.
I have thought about modifying/strengthening it many times to make it more kid friendly.
My grandchildren love it, they think it's great fun to run round it.
I've got a white infinity cove and I use this durable/scrubbable emulsion paint

I do a lot of furniture photography and get lots of black scuffs from the feet dragging and walking on it.
I use a mop and one...
It would be good to know how you get on and what results you get.
I'm using similar matte papers as you from Olmec and St Cuthberts.
Although I would not recommend St Cuthberts for calendars. Fantastic paper but to curly.
