Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

OK, OK, it looks like 'high expectations' are part of the problem. Indeed I will need to switch lenses if I want quality wide shots. It's just that I do a lot of stuff for magazine articles, and when you're submitting a hundred shots for every one that's produced, you want them to be right...

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Thank you Steve, that's really helpful, especially the Photozone review. So... yup, expensive mistake then! :bang::bang::bang: Although it looks like the Canon equivalent is only marginally better. Despite doing as much research as possible before buying this issue never came up. Ugh. Am...

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Hood was on 'backwards' as not in use. An £84 UV filter on the front. Thanks for the ideas... will take a couple more snaps later 'naked' when the weather improves. That's the lens that will be naked, not me. The latter would not be pretty.

Sigma 24-70 f/2.8: Expensive mistake or schoolboy error?

Being SO PLEASED with the Canon 85mm f/1.8 prime lens I bought for my 5D, I decided to upgrade my kit lens. I wanted the Canon 24-70 f/2.8 mark 1, but it's out of stock everywhere. As I'm now off up to the Scottish Islands, I impatiently went for the Sigma instead. I've just downloaded the...

    External Microphone for DSLR?

Holy Thread Revival indeed! :D For the record I ended up with the Sennheiser MKE400, and I'm very pleased with it.

    Underground Candid

You have just made my day as I ordered that very lens yesterday. Love the shot and agree with all the above. So come on tell us, how did you get that cinematic effect?

Summer candid of my other half

I think that's a lovely capture, nice one!

    Liverpool Docks - Frozen

Btw there's also the obvious... If you wanted the tower and reflection, how about trying portrait orientation next time, not landscape?

    Liverpool Docks - Frozen

Hi Paul, like many I am always reticent to comment as I feel that I'm no expert, but IMHO: I do no like the composition in 1. The main reason being that the horizon almost cuts the image in half, although i appreciate that you want to keep the whole tower's reflection. I think you nailed it...

    Cally (DJ Press Shots)

Absolutely no expert here, but I find number 2 to be the most striking! I really like the unusual pose and how the shot is composed.

    Is there a compact, portable, all-in-one printer/scanner?

Cheers! Will check it out.

Manage to catch the reds fly by today! Unexpected!

I would be WELL chuffed to get a shot as brilliant as that with such little time to think about it. Like it a lot, nice one!

    A very random candid...

Like it too! Defines what a candid should be to me... a semi-planned natural shot rather than a random snap leaving heaps to chance. The second person on the right gives it added interest to me... I like it a lot, and you've inspired me to try and rig something like this myself now. Thanks!
