Completely agree - this is the D700 replacement and that Nikon won't be making a D300 replacement. They haven't released any new pro DX glass to suggest they will and if you want a DX pro Nikon, nikon will want you to use the DX mode in the D810.

Fair enough, i only saw the release stating NX-D was meant to replace NX2.... I personally use Adobe Camera Raw - i find for my workflow its easier, but can appreciate that Nikons own software would no doubt be a bit more capable for NEFs

I believe that is because they have a new release of the software?

I held off from upgrading my D700 when the D800/E came out. I think now is the time. I will have to compare how prices stabilise with respect to D800E before deciding what makes better sense, but heck the gearhead in me will no doubt want the D810.....

I'm currently obsessing over the 645Z, for me this is access to something i could never aspire to a few yrs ago. Now to start saving and i could be shooting Pentax soon :)

I recently took my 525 on holiday and have to say very impressed with it. Light and easy enough to get into position and happy enough with the stability. Only slight annoyance is total height, would prefer 15-20cm more....but highly recommended!

I have the Nikkor 28-105, if you use it in good light and step it down a bit its a lovely lens. I find the rendering more pleasant than the 85 and 28 1.8 G that I have but its not as sharp. The 24-85 VR is also not a bad option.
