Tamron 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 SP Di VC - Opinions?

Excellent lens. Every bit as good as the Nikkor 70-300mm VR, however if you want to get really detailed shots of small birds you'll need something with greater reach.

    Travelling with Google Maps

There's an Android app called Maps(-) which enables you to cache various online maps including Google Maps to your SD card. You can then use the phone to navigate without having to connect to a local mobile network and use data.

    20% off nikon gear

£199 for a 50mm f1.8 lens is way over the top!

    Nikon Repair

I doubt they'd be allowed to do this in the EU. Remember when the car manufacturers tried to insist that warranties would be invalid if a car owner took their vehicle to an independent? The European Commission came down on them like a ton of bricks.

Filter holder for a super wide angle lens?

Get an extra-wide Colin holder. I use one on my Siggy 10-20mm and there's no vignetting.

Kata 3N1-20 or Lowepro Slingshot 202AW

Have you thought about the Lowepro Fastpack 200? Similar size but retains the "sling" feature albeit in a rucsac form- factor.

Looking for that special Christmas Present

I notice they're using the same picture of the moon for various other Samyang lenses. Funny how they all produce identical results?!?!?

Tamron VC USD Vs. Nikkon VR (70-300)

Well for what it's worth I went down the Tamron route. I'm very pleased with the lens. Very solid, very effective VC and good results.

    Kia owners .

I bought one for my wife last year. Seriously impressive car for the money. It may not have quite the quality of a VW Golf but I was converted the moment I took one for a test-drive. The 7 year warranty is unbeatable and points to the confidence KIA has in the car. The car was designed at KIA's...

    blinding big ball of light

There are probably super-massive black holes at the centre of every large galaxy, however just because there's a black hole there doesn't mean you can't see the light from all the stars that orbit that super-massive black hole and has already been said, the closer you get to the centre of any...

Interesting to see they're still flying a Chipmunk. I'll be at the Airday in July. Fingers crossed that the weather behaves.

I'm being offered a replacement printer - what's the catch?

I think any warranty should really do better than that bearing in mind it cost me the best part of £14 to ship the old printer to the repairers. The Sale of Goods Act states states that it is the seller’s (retailer’s) responsibility to ensure the goods are repaired or replaced at no cost...

I'm being offered a replacement printer - what's the catch?

I bought a Canon Pixma iP3600 last August and on teh whole it's been quite a nice little printer, however a few weeks ago the green and amber lights started flashing alternately and an error message appeared. After some fruitless attempts to fix it, I went onto the Canon webiste and sent an...
