It is the full program and it will down load but it won't install (or run obviously) unless the original software keys are present in the computer's registry. Many have fallen into this trap. There are ways around it apparently that involves manually making entries in the computers registry...

You can try the un-install/install method if you like but be aware that the software available on Canon's website are updates and require the original software that came with the camera to installed before it can be used.

Did you have MLU on? Also, if those shots at f2.8 are unsharpened RAW just converted to JPG I reckon that's about as good as it gets.

Canon say in the bumf that comes with the grip that the batteries are used simultaneously, but I've read that the actual battery in use actually depends on the terminal voltage of each battery (as detected by the grip's eletrickery) and that the supply to the camera is constantly being swapped...

I've just check my 50D and it seems fine - both in DPP placement of the focus point and liveview alignment.

That's the SI (Super Impose) plate I'm talking about. It's not really a user removeable part although it is relatively easy to take out. With a camera as new as your 50D though I wouldn't even think about removing the plate - if you can send it back I'd do just that, either that or send it to...

'P' mode

If you are absolutely sure you focused with the edge of the selected focus square aligned on the left side of the battery it would seem there's a good chance the SI plate in your camera is not quite where it should be. I can't come up with any other explanation.

From personal experience, I'd be very wary of purelygadgets if I were you.
