2/ They are mainly a summer visitor, but a small (but increasing) number spend the winter in Britain, surviving on berries and food offered in gardens - as this bird is doing

The horizon is a tricky one, with the mountains and trees making it look a bit wonky. I've used the waterline as the horizon, as this grid shows. Any suggestions where I should place it if its off?
It was -3 this morning, so it could happen
I was surprised by the calmness of the water, especially considering the other side of the road (where the river was supposed to be) had a strong current. There were even 2ft whirlpools about!

Dark legs suggests Lesser Whitethroat, I think Whitethroats have brownish legs
Its general shape and colour also looks like lesser, along with lack of prominent eye-ring as mentioned

I agree that the background is unnatural - it is the top suface of a wooden fence/banister
Unfortunatley regarding the apature my humble bridge can only manage a max of F8! Even at that the slower shutter speed would mean I would lose the sharpness and detail
