    Compact camera advice

Another thumbs up for the S95 (I have the S90 & S95 as well as a Lumix TZ) The Olympus XZ-1 looks interesting though, but I doubt it's a better buy than the S95, and it's more expensive...

Best bridge camera - upto £400?

Well, if IQ isn't too important I suppose you're right...

Best bridge camera - upto £400?

    I don't know - 28-200mm is a fairly good range ;)

Best bridge camera - upto £400?

The Nikon P7100 is a very good camera (not really a bridge, but it's IQ I would say is noticeably better) and it's at the bottom end of your price scale...

    Sony NEX 5 Cameras

I think the only differences between the 'old' NEX-5 is the colour and whether it comes with the single kit lens (18-55mm) or kit + pancake (16mm)

    Compact camera £150 budget!

Don't forget, less people are in front of their screens this time of the year ;) (Anyway, Google is your friend as well as the search facility in forums such as this...)

    Compact camera £150 budget!

If you need a long zoom, I'm not sure what would be your best option. Maybe a Panasonic TZ model? I don't think it'll easy to find a compact with a long zoom and good IQ for less than £150. But who knows! :D

    Compact camera £150 budget!

You could get a Canon S90 for that quite easily (and a S95 for just a tad more...) Cracking compacts

    A travel camera/system

When I can't be bothered to lug the D300 + lenses I take either a Canon S95 or NEX-5. To be honest the NEX-5 isn't far off the D300 IQ wise for many a shot. The kit lens + pancake do just about anything I need and although they're not that small, they are quite light...

    Next Camera My Final Three..

What about a s/h D300? A step up from the cameras on your list...

    Nikon 50mm 1.8D AF

I've got both, but must admit to using the 35mm far more due to the crop factor...

    Going Slightly Crazy

I had my heart set on a Canon when starting out on the digital path. Went into a shop handled them all and ended up buying a Nikon :D Go and have a play. It may help you decide. (Another thing to consider is Nikon & Canon second hand lenses are far more common than other brands...)

    Tamron 17-50 vs Nikon 35/1.8 at f2.8

I'd be mightily surprised if the zoom was anywhere near as sharp as the prime. I can't say for sure, as I only have the 35mm, but let's see...
