The Amazing Sony A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Still waiting for my 16mm Sigma F1.4, was posted via Royal Mail last Thursday first class. Their website/Twitter says they are experiencing delays which makes sense I guess, demand is likely to be high. My Apple watch however, which was Dispatched on Friday 17th from China has passed through...

Value is not always perceived in monetary terms. I don’t care what their profit margins are. I pay what I feel is worth it for the product I want. I have a choice, I can buy something else. Got the latest Apple Watch in order for the Wife’s birthday at the moment, means I can use her older...

It looks great both spec wise and visually but I just don’t like Windows and no amount of spec will change that for me. The latest Samsung’s are often better spec wise and price wise than the latest IPhone but I hate Android so it doesn’t matter to me. The ecosystem is what sells it for me...

I think it depends what you do on it. Spec for spec you can usually get a Windows machine for far less than a Mac, I doubt most people would try and argue against that. I know my MacBook likely cost 1.5-2x the same spec Windows laptop but for me, having everything work seamlessly is worth the...

Crazy how far things have come since the 80s. I’m a bit younger than you so my first computing job was on a help desk, still had Windows NT for the 13k user estate, even that seems ancient now but really wasn’t that long ago! Currently a Network and Voice engineer so spend most of my time doing...

from a personal point of view, I would never go back to a Windows machine since I bought a MBP a few years back. I have Windows for Work as they enforce it but having the choice, I would be Mac. Our household is fully Apple though, iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple TV’s (x3). Everything just...

The Amazing Sony A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Just bought a used Sigma 16mm F1.4 for my Sony A6300 for £280, hoping it shows up tomorrow. Only have the 35mm F1.8 OSS at the moment but I like as an all rounder but struggling indoors as there is only so far I can move back! Sharpness on the Sony is not as good as I was hoping but hoping the...

New Sony 50mm F1.8 OSS or Used Sigma 56mm F1.4

Thanks all. The Sigma it is then! Guess if I don’t use it as much as I thought I could sell it on for what I paid for it.

New Sony 50mm F1.8 OSS or Used Sigma 56mm F1.4

Torn between these two lenses, currently have an A6300 so no built in IS and have the 30mm Sony OSS as my only lens but I want more reach. The Sigma Used is about £50 more than a brand New Sony. Is the Sigma noticeably better? Reviews suggest the AF is a little quicker and some say the AF on...

    Security Camera.

I use Hikvision at home, four in total. Three are external and one is in the nursery (two way audio etc). You hear horror stories about the Hikvision ones but I stream all four feeds to a Windows PC running BlueIris and block access to the internet to the actual cameras themselves, only the PC...

The Amazing Sony A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Went out last night with the A6300 and Sony 35mm F1.8 to our local Xmas Markets. Took maybe 30 photos and got 7-8 which came out decent enough for me, couple below. Only downside is that 35mm is not wide enough on the APSC sensor so was fairly limited by this which us annoying, may need to look...

    Hardwire dashcam setup

Would you not need four of them though to cover all angles? Even if you had front and rear, if someone hit you from the side or someone ran a key down the door, it might not see them?

    Hardwire dashcam setup

Personally I wouldn't want to run a dash cam for 24/7. Even if it lasts for 2-3 days, what about when you go on holiday etc? Do you not park near the house? You can buy fairly decent CCTV cameras these days. This is ours at night:

    The General Car Thread

I realise this post is fairly old but we have Carplay in our 2018 Mini Cooper S which is built off the iDrive and its spot on, the latest IOS 13 makes it even better as well. I just get in the car and it all works wirelessly. The screen is responsive and all the apps just work fine. Ours was...

Not enough Ethernet sockets on sky q hub

Hubs are useless in the modern age. Just buy a cheap gigabit switch, you can get them for £20 or less.
