    Cheap and portable telephoto lens

I would love either of those lenses, but sadly I think the cost may be too high. Using a teleconverter could be a good option

I have a great Sony compact already, but I really struggle to take photos of passing aircraft.

    Cheap and portable telephoto lens

Hi everyone. I’m looking for a sensibly priced telephoto lens that will fit my Sony A7. It’s to take to work (airline pilot) so needs to be not too big. I once took my 100-400G lens and that was way too big for the cockpit! All help gratefully received. Stu

    My Light Painting Evolving

Hiya. Love this thread and have tried (but failed) to create orbs. I used some small led fairy lights but the camera doesn't pick them up the light is so dim. I tried a small torch which works but not great. Please help...what is the best type of light to use. I really want to be able to create...

    Moonrise over the River Alde

Wonderful images. Agree that 2 is the best. I also found the star trails a bit distracting. Still amazing images though. May I ask, what sort of exposure time are you using? Stu

    Waterfalls in Wales

Can't have been that blindingly obvious, the colour version was produced using HDR as well. Like I say, thank you all for taking the time to post your thoughts. Would have been nice to receive more constructive points instead of 'its HDR its cr#p'! I value critique as its the only way we...

    Waterfalls in Wales

Thank you for the comments. I'm curious, if I hadn't mentioned HDR would the comments still have been as negative? I don't like over the top HDR images myself but just felt in this case it helped 'lift' the scene. Hey-ho. Each to their own though. :-)

    Waterfalls in Wales

Hi all, Could I have some honest critique on this image please. The original image was produced using HDR. I then created 2 layers, the top layer was converted to B&W and an infra red filter applied. The bottom image was converted to B&W with no filter. I then erased part of the image to reveal...

Help with small studio space 7`x10`

Hi Lee, I am in a very similar position. If you can find a HiLite on ebay or whatever, they are great. I have the 7x5ft version (I think its that size) and it is fantastic. Very easy to set up, though not so easy to put away! I have used it in a few peoples houses. Good luck. Stu

    Canon 24-105L

Hi everyone, I purchased this lens a while back but need advice. It never seems to produce constantly sharp images. I am using it on a Canon 5d mkll. I may be doing something wrong (wouldn't be the first time!) but it's bugging me. I shoot portrait and wedding and seem to get an 80% success rate...

setups and shots with home studio setup Thread

MD, Quick question which you have probably been asked before..what produces the reflection? I think I can make out a piece of perspex or something that the little lad is sat on, is that right? Great images. Stu

    Sunny weddings

Hi everyone, I have been asked to photograph a wedding for a friend and am after a bit of advice. How is the best way to prevent glare on people's foreheads? I am conscious that it will be very sunny on the day and not sure how to counteract the 'shiny head' syndrome. Any tips anyone? Thank you Stu

    Blurring advice

Hi all, I took this photo using my Lasolite Hi-lite with a light pointing inside the reflector and one from over my shoulder. A lot of the images were spot on but some had this blurring/shadowing. Can someone tell me what I did wrong. I used a Canon 40d 24-105mm L lens. Thanks Stu
