The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

sadly new gears off the cards at the minute, I'm in the middle of prepping a car to take my lad out auto testing and the wife's demanding a new kitchen......

It can be nice to go for a walk somewhere new...
I’m ‘forcing’ myself to go to Sheffield tomorrow because I’ve not done any ‘dedicated’ photography for quite some time, it’s just been holiday/dog walk snaps.

any ideas where to look for my mojo !! motivation has been seriously lacking lately, I did get out for a couple of hours Friday but feeling i need a change in my photography to spark the interest again.

As I mostly go to the same places and the light is often poor I sometimes struggle so recently I've been doing some longer exposure pictures just to be different. I suppose playing with angle and perspective could be worth a try?

Hope it's good for you.

Looking at my photostream it was actually October I did any 'dedicated' photography, as I said earlier the rest have just been 'snap shots' whilst on holiday or walks  :$

To me these are the most important things and the biggest part of my photography. Anything else is probably 0.2%.

Both actually, I’ve read it’s a great lens on the A7RV as in crop mode you still get 26mp images.
it does cover FF at the wider end but with a lot of distortion... it wouldn't rely on it for that. I haven't got samples to show in FF mode...
but used it plenty as my travel telephoto on my A7IV about 4 years ago, which gave 14mp images in crop mode which is still decent. incredible lens!

Those are excellent, might need to add one to my wish list for my A7iv.

Excellent, thank you. :)

I’ve got the chance to buy an absolute mint copy for £300 so makes sense as a light carry around especially as I love to visit wildlife parks and bird sanctuary’s on my visits. :)

That's a bargain, buy it and if you don't want it I'll buy it off you for that price :ROFLMAO:

a change of scenery and style is needed at the minute

I get bored of going to the same places. The trouble is I like the idea of going somewhere but when push comes to shove I can't be bothered to make the effort. For example, I'd like to so more urban photography but I live in a small town which doesn't have much to offer. Sheffield is 20 minutes away but I've done that now 3 or 4 times and I want something different but that means travelling for over an hour to Manchester or Leeds and I just can't be bothered. Added to that we don't leave Betty (my dog) for more than 4 hours it limits me too.

I have spent a fair amount of time photographing Birmingham over the last couple of years, it’s about an hour from me, I like Birmingham as it’s constantly evolving at the minute, and yes sleepy hollow where I live has nothing so gets boring. Derby, Leicester and Nottingham don’t seem to be changing much so once you’ve done them you don’t get excited about going back. It’s getting that desperate I may have to go and find a tree in a field and see if I can make that look pretty or interesting

We went to the seaside which is one of our favourite places. The light wasn't great but it very slowly improved until we'd been home a couple hours. Such is life :D A7cII and 40mm.

Mrs WW wanted to see the blossoms.

Nice to see bluebells too.

Flowers.

The walk home from the shops. I had a ploughman's, a vegan sausage roll and a hot chocolate while Mrs had tuna, vegan sausage roll and Americano.

A7cII and 40mm again.

There are some flowers out as below but not a lot. This walk will be nicer in a month or so.

Do you not do meat at all Alan?

My youngest tried going full Vegan but really struggled with it.

Struggle with choice of food or health?

I have the odd fish and chips maybe once a month and dairy products reguarly and that's it. Mrs has a couple of medical issues which mean she needs a slightly different diet including eggs and tuna but no dairy as she can't take it. Neither of us eat meat be it beef, pork or chicken. It started for me decades ago even before mad cow but back then I was travelling the UK a lot and staying in hotels and being vegi wasn't always easy. These days I think it's a lot better. Mrs used to eat pork and chicken but has followed me despite me telling her it's her choice and has dropped the meat and now only eats vegi, eggs and tuna. I struggle in Thailand and I'm not really looking forward to my next trip which will be for three weeks. I was sick of the vegi food last year after two weeks.

I had a sister who was a nurse and told me that they used to get vegans in reguarly as the diet was ok for a while but later had an effect but that was decades ago. Health wise I have no issues that have been identified yet, quite the opposite as I'm always told everything is spot on.

There wasn’t any health issues although she can have quite severe eczema at times and that improved with the change of diet. it was more choice. I think a lot of of it came down to taste and feeling full was the way she explained it. While for sure there are so many options available now making meat much easier to replace, she found that when she went out with friends for a bite to eat she had very limited choices compared to everyone else. To be fair that could have been down to the places her friends choose to eat. It was easy at home of course as we just got her whatever she wanted.

Some of the stuff wasn’t too bad to be fair. Although personally I wasn’t fussed on a lot of the “fake meat” type food. We did our best to support her with it but eventually she decided it wasn’t for her. It’s something I would love to be able to do myself just because of animal cruelty but unfortunately I don’t have the will power to go without meat.

Yes, although things have improved over the the decades choice is still often limited when eating out. I'm sometimes limited to pizza or fish and chips but one of our regular places also does a very nice vegi ravioli.

I like the fake meat options and eat the bacon, sausages, roasts, strips, chunks and all the rest, my diet also includes dairy, fruit, veg and nuts. I exercise a lot which I've done since I was a teenager and so far no issues. Just a little story, A few months ago I watched an exercise competition between soldiers and mountain climbers on Youtube. They all looked to be in their 20's. They did planking, I'd never heard of it so I replayed it and tried at the same time and I beat them at my first attempt despite being in my 60's. I guess decades of press ups and sit ups helped.

We make our own shampoo, soap and skin olis/creams and I think there are health benefits to that. Might be work looking into for your daughter? I was a bit sceptical at first but I'm now a believer.

A lot of studies now would push you towards a more meat centred diet.
Either regards to being full, I believe it’s to do with the fats.
I’ve been trying to get fit and eat better, they say to try and eat 2g of protein per kg if working out a lot. Which is actually a lot harder than you would expect.
I also started eating a lot of Greek yogurt rather than cakes and ice cream( it’s now become my favourite part of the day) I started eating zero fat ones as that what a lot of the influencers and posts would say, then I came across others saying you should have the 5% fat as in that it makes little difference but the fat make you feel more full so your less likely to snack more after.. it has the added bonus of tasting like whipped cream rather than sour cream.
We have always ate a lot better than most we know, the wife being Chinese, me being a chef, one daughter being allergic to a lot and my youngest having been diagnosed with crohns a few years ago ment we only eat fresh cooked food, mainly organic meat, a lot of fish, fruit and veg.
Down side is between the 4 or 5 if you include the dog, as she eats better than some people. We spend an unreal amount on food & I spend way more than most ever would cooking.

Funnily my daughter used to call herself a meatetarian

Yeah that makes sense.

Meatetarian :D

Probably a wee bit late into this conversation... I've always been a vegetarian (no eggs also).
Over last year and half i have been on a journey to get healthy (mentally and physically). Have lost 25% of my body weight while maintaining or increasing muscle mass. So it perfectly possible to get all the proteins needed on a veggie diet, even more so if you eat eggs unlike me. Also recommendation is around 2g per lb of body weight or 1.2-1.6g per kg of body weight if you are resistance training and trying build/maintain muscles.
But one thing to be aware of in veggie diet and more so with a vegan diet is vitamin B12 deficiency.

Having said that.... I am veggie for personal reasons, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's like playing life on "hard mode". But I have friends who are the other extreme in that they eat nothing but meat. That is also not good.
Having a balanced diet with some or "responsible" amount of meat is probably the best way i think.
Each to their own though... vegan diet is just impossible for me to maintain. I don't use supplements, not even for getting my required protein intake.
