Afghanistan

This is very much appreciated guys...

No Porn please - other than FHM/Loaded etc. such things are banned out of respect for the locals...(we all have more than enough 'training videos' on our hard drives to compensate).
No chocolate - it melts - and besides as I've said I'm in training again (ha! what a laugh that is...).
AP, Practical Photography; Professional Photographer; landscapes - anything photographic - also anything like Esquire; Vogue; Marie-Claire etc - there are 2 'girls' as part of our team so it's unfair to exclude them - TP Ladies - any 'female-comfort-products' you can think of would no doubt be much appreciated by them...

Any ripped DVD movies - old B&W Brit war movies are my fave, but proper classics are preferred...everything from The Sound of Music to Ice Cold In Alex - like I said there are girls here too...
In Iraq the office fave was South Pacific and sparked a phase of us all walking round singing Op TELIC-The Musical - songs such as "I'm gonna wash Iraq right outta my hair" and "I like to Live in a Corrimec" (from West Side Story) could be heard on the Jingly-Bus on the way to HQ BRITFOR each morning til we were banned from singing by the Sri Lankan KBR bus drivers who threated a revolt...

Things I actually may run short of are:
Eclipse sensor swabs and cleaning fluid; lens tissues etc.

Coffee - if someone pops into their local Starbucks and asks nicely they may 'donate' a couple of bags of beans a month - saves anyone actually having to fork out...
Beans, not ground though please...

and...thanks again guys - this is very much appreciated by me and by the others - when I tell them...

And what sort of comfort product for the ladies?

keep your head down

I haven't a clue - I'll ask at the morning Briefing if they're short of anything - we chaps make do with a wet-wipe 'dobie' and a blunt Swiss-Army Knife to shave with when out on jobs, but girlie-requirements are somewhat different, I imagine...age ranges from 26 to 35-ish...

Put yourself in their shoes - no shops, no hairdresser, no nail salon, etc. must be terrible...

Timing perfect, I'm off to Mr Tesco tomorrow so if you get the list up I'll see what I can do for the ladies, and wrap it in pretty pink paper

A great read of 'on the road again in afgan' Rob. Good to hear everyone's mucking in and sending fun stuff.
Looking forward to shots and stories from you.

2 x D3 straps just been posted!

you mentioned shaving-tackle
got any requests?

King-of-Shaves gel - the turquoisey-blue one and Mitchum solid-stick deoderant - the sea-green coloured one that's supposed to be good for 48 hours - though out here it's about 10...(no idea what 'flavour' either of them are) if in doubt buy a manly 'sport' fragrance...lol

:D

Muchos Gracias Amigos...

Glad to hear you're doing well and keeping safe.

I would have loved to send you loads of magazines that I've got piled here, but I think it would be wise that I don't! I am almost certain it wouldn't be delivered (being sent from Saudi) and I may be taken in for questionings (God forbid, I may find myself in a not too friendly camp south of Florida).

Please keep us posted with how you and your twin D3 are coping.

I pray and hope that you have a very speedy and safe tour, and that all comes to a sudden and quick peaceful end.

well....
the postal address is:

24864891 Sgt Rob Knight
Media PIC
TFH HQ
Lashkar Gah
BFPO 715

all Red-Cross parcels gratefully recieved - no sweeties or snacks - I'm on "Op Massive" again - the whole media ops team are doing the "300" Fitness Programme and it's a bloody killer...
We'll all look like Greek Gods by Xmas...hopefully not poseidon though...lol

Reading material is at a premium so any old Photo Magazines would be really great.

...as you can see from my post in General Photo Sharing - the previous Phot took the bloody neck-straps with him - now I know I'm being picky, but if someone could source a branded Nikon D3 strap, that'd be peachy...
Wait-out on that as I'm going to plead poverty with Nikon UK and see if they'll send me one out - I'll tell them that the only alternative is an old EOS strap I found in the cupboard...lol

p.s Postage up to 2Kg is FREE from the UK...

any particular flavour of photo mags ?? , if not then i have a few copies of PhotoPlus Canon Edition going spare  , only kidding , will send something tomorrow :)

I`ve got loads of photography mags, DSLR User, DSLR Photographer, DC, PM etc.

Out of interest, how long does it take to arrive?

what about the disks from photomags? Any use?

Sounds as if Rob is going to be a hell of a popular person next time parcels arrive, he will be the best person at the base for magazines and entertainment (y)

Hey Dod any chance of having this thread stickied till Rob gets back safely

Terri

Ps. Rob any info about internet ect greatfully recieved or any info as useual the army are good at treating people as mushrooms.

take care keep safe hope to meet you and sake you hand one day

Stack of old photo mags here too so will see what I can sort out at the weekend Rob. If your ladies need such things as facial wipes then I'll get into Wilkinson at the weekend for those for them too.

Internet access is good - we (Media Ops) have our own stand-alone system, as well as the Paradigm system that available to everyone else.
Toiletries are always useful - 'yellow' Imperial leather soap please - not the blue one as it soaks up too much water and turns to mush.
Oral-B (Braun) electric toothbrush heads - not available here at all in the NAAFI.
Baby-Wipe refill packs always go down well - not the ones with loads of jojoba/mink-oil/granulated whale moisturiser, but the 'blue' packets that have more 'cleaning-power'...

Basic necessities are fairly well catered for (if pricey - $21 for razor blades, but now that I have them they'll last the entire 6 months) - it's little things that add morale - reading matter and stuff to watch on the laptop etc.

If someone's got an electric multi-adapter, I need a 2-pin Euro to UK 3-pin adapter - at the moment I've done the old trick of using a ball-point to wedge it into a 3-pin, but if the Signals Foreman sees it, I'll be formally whipped naked out of camp facing backwards on a donkey...

Magazines: anything is good but I'm particularly interested in expanding my somewhat limited horizons with regard to off-camera wireless Strobe lighting - so if anyone has anything pertinent, please feel free...

Some magazines sorted here, and am going to call into Wilkinsons for "lady products" too - will then head straight to the PO and get the lot packed up and sent.

Yes please that's 2-pin to 3 pin - i.e I have a 2-pin plug that needs to go into a 3-pin socket.
I only say that as out chief clerk describes them the other way round!

Rob, if the photo above is the wrong adaptor I have one of the other kind.

are all your power points the english variety or euro, seems to be a bit of confusion.

also depending on what you are powering it may be easier to send you out the 'figure 8' power leads with the correct plug on. (the kind used by most cheapo stereo's and some laptops)

owt else you need from a mil perspective let me know, I'm still with the grunts so can source most bits!

All the plug-sockets are English UK 3-pin.
I have a coffee-machine I bought in Germany with a 2-pin plug on it...

Cheers peeps!
