Hi all,

Yes, I know this sort of thing gets asked a lot, and I do apologise :D

I'm probably after a new camera bag shortly for my new kit. I've bought loads of bags in the past and like so many I've never found the perfect one. I'm currently sourcing the following kit:

Canon 1Dmk4
24-70 f2.8L
70-200 f2.8 (non IS) L

I almost certainly will be buying a better 50mm (probably the 1.4, can't quite stretch to the 1.2)

I also want to have the option of carrying my three speedlites (1 x 580EX2, 2 x 430EX2) and various bits n bobs.

I'd like to keep the weight down as much as possible. I have my 50D and other lenses but reckon rather than buying a huge bag to fit it all in I could keep the older kit in one of my existing bags and have a really nice well suited bag for the new kit.

As for style - I really can't make my mind up. I like the idea of shoulder bags (can be more stylish I think) but I have a bit of a bad back (don't we all) so will look into backpacks too. Not really into the slingshot types as I had one before and just couldn't get on with it.

I realise my post is a bit vague and rambly but any help and recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)
 
Have a look at the LowePro Pro Runner 300 AW -- looks like it's replacing? the popular Mini-Trekker AW.

It's big enough for 70-200 type lenses but not so big it weights a ton before you start.

With that sort of weight, I would certainly advise a backpack style bag!

Personally, I'm a big fan of the FStop gear range, different bags/inserts for different amounts of gear, but most importantly, they carry like real mountaineering bags, you hardly notice they are there.
 
Lowepro 400 AW - will accommodate all your kit without breaking a sweat. However you almost certainly will do if you're carrying all that in your bag!
 
Flipside 400 works for me after a few false starts, sensible compromise between weight, storage space, comfort and security

My perfect solution for a very comparable load is the ThinkTank Urban Disguise 60, but get the (very comfortable) shoulder harness as well. It's very compact and folds up into the rear flap pocket when you don't need it.

Best of both worlds by far. Take your camera out and start shooting and it makes a great shoulder bag that you access your gear from. When you are done, just put the shoulder harness around the handles and off you go.

I've had a think and I've decided I just want something I can get the new stuff into for the time being. I want to keep the weight down as much as possible.

I have a Lowepro Commercial AW which is great, I can just about fit most of what I have now into it but then its too heavy to carry about for long so I just use it for when I'm on location - what I'm looking for now is a walkabout bag just for the new kit. When the need arises and I want all my kit together I'll have to get something bigger (and on wheels!! :eek:)

Those mentioning Billingham - can you suggest a particular bag because whenever I've looked at them before I've never really seen one that fits the bill. They're either too small or too big! I've reckoned to have looked at their website and I can't really see one that a 1Dmk4 will fit into, apart from the really big bags which of course aren't what I'm looking for. The smaller walkabout types don't fit pro sized cameras, indeed when I tried to get my gripped 50D into one it was too tall/wide.

As we are talking bags, backpacks and bags of holding.

I'm looking to buy a bag to take to Glastonbury. It will just have to hold a Nikon D5000, 18-55mm, 55-200mm, spare battery, memory card & filters.

I was thinking of picking up the Lowepro Slingshot 102AW as this seemed ideal for what I'll be carrying and for the crowded areas I will, at times, be wandering through.

Having no experience of taking a DSLR to a festival I just wondered if anyone would recommend something else?
