I have switched from flickr to 500px now, it seems that its got much better functionality than flickr plus its really easy to sell prints on there.

Has anyone else used them, has it been a good or bad experience?

If you are one there, drop me a friend request :)

Set one up this morning. Seems nice and clean. Not paying for a full account though. Which Id seen it sooner. I paid for a new website yesterday!
Friend request sent!

I hadn't heard of it before this post but from having a quick flick through the site it looks like it has a much better level of work quality than Flickr or Deviant Art do.
It doesn't appear to have groups through so it's not really a straight swap from Flickr unless you weren't fully using Flickr's features.

I've bookmarked it to have a proper play with the site later.

Any idea if you can get it to load tags from your IPTC keywords like most sites do? It doesn't load the lens from the image either oddly.

Hadn't seen it before but impressed with the standard after a quick look. Will sign up and have a longer look later.

Just had a look and it seems quite good. You are certainly right about the editors choice, some amazing photographs on there!

Just had a look and there is some amazing talent on there
Loved your faves btw :)

Just registered too

May I suggest people dont visit this site if you hate feeling inadequate!

Real nice site that.
One query - how do you stop people nicking your photos if you upload them at full size? The right click and save option isn't disabled and having briefly browsed the site I can't see any photos that are watermarked either..

Mine are watermarked.. They are also the least likely to be stolen!

it seems very Russian. Just looked at the upgrade page and all the example photographers are Russian sounding :) Wonder why that is when it is a Canadian company...

I've been experimenting and although I have uploaded full-size photos, I can't see any way of downloading images bigger than 600 x 900.

Well, you get about 80% commission on sales, based on a price that you can set, its all very easy and slick too.

oh, and the editors just picked one of my shots for their chosen images :D

I too have signed up for a trial account and seem very impressed with it so far (y)

Here is my portfolio if anyone is interested

I have a question for jamesoliverstone or anyone else who is signed up, I have noticed that on here no one seems to put Watermarks on, should we all do it as a rule of thumb or not worry about it as it doesn't seem easy to download a good copy of our images.

I noticed that and had a look in their help forum, it was mentioned that they'd tested right click protection a month ago but there wasn't a date for it being added.
I did see one image with a watermark on it but it doesn't seem to be common.

It's Fotomoto that handle their sales, on the page where you enable sales it says:

Introduction
Enabling the photo store is completely free (it is commission-based). By enabling photo store you can instantly start selling your photos with 500px. With worldwide community and more than 15 million page views per month, we encourage our photographers to take advantage of this opportunity.

About Fotomoto
We partnered with Fotomoto — great guys from San Francisco, to enable you to sell your photos on 500px. Fotomoto is an e-commerce system for photographers that takes the pain of selling photos out of the hands of the artist — leaving more time and energy to do what you do best: create stunning photographs. Take a tour to find out how Fotomoto works.

How it works
When you enable your store you will receive the email inviting you to register with Fotomoto. After you complete the registration, you will be able to set your prices and payment options. Fotomoto will do the rest — payment processing, printing and delivery to your customers.

What we make
Fotomoto takes 15% comission that is used to cover transaction costs, management and support. We take 5% to partially cover our costs of running the system. You are left with 80%, from which the cost of print is deducted. For example, you sell you print for $100. Fotomoto takes 15% of that, or $15, we take 5% ($5), leaving you with $80. The actual print costs $5 to make, leaving you with a neat profit of $75.

Pricing
You can set your own pricing, or simply accept the recommended default settings in your Fotomoto account.

Their terms are here.

Found it very easy to set up a nice looking portfolio. Just in case anyone wants to upgrade, code "friends" saves you $10.

Upgraded with the voucher code. For £25 quid, silly not too. Thanks for that

one slightly anoying thing if you click on anyones flickr twitter etc links it opens in the same window and not in a new one, not a major gripe i know some really great stuff on there, tried to like some phots wont let me cos i havent uploaded a avatar

It normally takes 24 hours for Google Analytics to pick up your stats and it can take a little while before the code to link Analytics to your site is findable.
That's my experience with Zenfolio and Analytics anyway.
