Aviva or LV insurance

Hi

Has anyone had dealings with either of the above and if so what are your experiences ??

Thinking specifically about car insurance, but any insurance dealings will be helpful.

Cheers

I wouldn't touch aviva with a barge pole having had extreme trouble with them in their previous incarnation as Norwich Union. They mishandled an insurance claim to the extent that we (family business) ended up with a CCJ against us after an accident entirely the fault of a third party.

I'd steer clear of Aviva too, again thanks to their previous trading name. Rip off prices (still now their quotes have been nearly double others I've had) and really poor customer service.

A couple of my friends are with LV at the minute and have said they'll not be renewing with them, can't remember why though.

Edit: Just to add about Aviva, the last 3 quotes I got from them were for 3 different cars. A 1.2 Fiat Stilo, a 2l Volvo 850 and my current car, a 2l Suzuki Grand Vitara. All came up at least double the cheapest quote from a known insurer (as opposed to the no-namers you often see).

LV im with at the moment, not had any claims or anything yet though, and hope not to have either...

I'm with Aviva and they were around £300 cheaper than any other quotes I could get for my car with modifications. Not had to make a claim so can't comment on what they would be like for customer service.

I just decided to go with aviva as they were the cheapest ;) by about £50 and only £150 excess ...I think they are doing a 2 or 3 month free for new customers just now ..but on saying this I aint had any dealings with them before so here's hoping :)

aviva paid paid my 14k claim out ok
1 stolen vehicle paid out
1 write off paid out
only hassle was a bit of bartering on the price of the car but you would get that with any of them

Been with LV= for years for the buildings and contents, had a couple of claims over the last 5 years, handled well with no problems and good prices.

Thanks all for your replies. Had read mixed reviews about both, had poor experience with Norwich Union years ago and wondered if they'd improved.

agreed. bunch of cowboys.

to the OP, any reason for the choice of 2 insurers?

Hi

Looking to renew my car insurance and of the known names these are reasonable priced. There are a few cheaper but I've never heard of them.

If anyone has any personnel recommendations to look at, much appreciated.

Cheers

churchill, admiral, etc

punch some details into some comparison sites to get a benchmark then get quotes direct from the good prices that take your fancy

Cheers.

Did that and Churchill were around £200 more , not sure re admiral though - will check them out.

Just moved from Aviva. Put excess up on this years quote without consultation and premium £175 more than one i chose with Esure with better excess and benefits.

Had five years no claims with Aviva; telephoned them to discuss quote received and it was clear they gear discounts to new customers not exisiting ones. Was offered £12 off.

Even called me after i cancelled and tried to suggest that i may not have bothered to take insurance with another company - unbelievable!

horses and courses really isn't it.

One man's butter is another mans poison

Shall i wipe backwards or forwards. what do you recommend?

Left hand or right hand?

Jeesus ****ing christ juggling 7 coconuts backwards on a unicycle.........

just what do you want to know about them? I was a slave to one (you can guess which one) for 12 years...... want me to tell you exactly how you are rated risk v liability?

And? .....

I'm with LV as they were the cheapest. Only time I have called them was last week to add my sister to my policy, was dealt with quickly and cheaply so was happy. Never claimed so can't comment on that side of things.

And? .....

and what?

there are a gazillion insurance companies out there, so why such a dumbass question as to "aviva or LV" as if they are the only two choices?

Because they are the 2 companies he has heard of that had reasonable prices, hence asking for peoples experiences with them.

ha ha. I suggest then that the OP uses google a bit more to get better deals with similar coverage......

Lynton you are getting on my tits today. STOP trying to get around the swear filter and stop replying like such a knob, please!

They are nearly all as bad as each other.

The Aviva Premiership is a clearly superior competition to the LV cup.

I think this proves that sponsoring rugby does generate interest in your business...

JL - sent you a pm asking for an explanation.

Just looking at ALL my posts for today, and no attempt at getting past a swear filter or anything knobbish........ so out with it, and tell me your gripe!

Me too - I ended up losing £10k in stolen equipment. The worst insurance company there is.

Thanks :-)

Doesn't look like they've improved much over the Norwich Union days then

your post from yesterday, before it was Ninja edited...

Left hand or right hand?

Jeesus *word here with letters spaced and spelt wrong* christ juggling 7 coconuts backwards on a unicycle.........

now I can quote that directly, but that would be getting around the filter. You may have thought that editing it would leave it unaltered, but someone had reported it, so the thread, unedited and in full, is copied in to the staff room..
