All of the impressions I've read seem to suggest that the Kenko are built better, and fit better - but nothing to suggest double the price is warranted. A colleague at work picked up a set of the Polaroid ones a few weeks ago, but I haven't seen them in action yet.
 
Anyone recommend good 3rd party wireless triggers? have £100 to spend my old yonguo ones don't work :(
 
Anyone tried the 400/5.6 + 1.4x tc with the 5D3. I know it only focuses at f8 on the center point (with the latest firmware) but was wondering how snappy it is and do you need to stop down a bit to get good IQ. Any sample images with the combo would be nice.

Yup, I have. Sold the TC! Snappy it wasn't. I believe that the Mark 3 TC is better than my Mark 2, so I'm thinking of renting one for a weekend to test it out: it's a lot of money to lay out only to find it doesn't do what I want.

There was nothing wrong with the TC, but it just wasn't doing what I wanted - that may be my fault!

My Mark 2 was OK in very good light, or for static objects, but part of the attraction for me of the MkIII was it's ability to capture BIF. It does an excellent job with the 400, but with the TC it was a disappointment. In less than perfect light BIF were almost impossible.

I'm still using a set of Yong Nuo RF602's that I bought a couple of years ago... They work fine and they've never let me down. :)

I have the 602 but the 600EX RT seems to hate them, and even a lil old 430ex can't get TTL working for either of them

Thanks for that. I cannot see the the MkIII 1.4x will make a scrap of difference on this lens - in fact I have read hundreds of threads about these MkIII converters and not come across any that rate the 1.4x much better than the MKII (the 2x mkIII is a different kettle of fish and widely reckoned to be a big improvement). These MkIII converters were made specifically for the mark2 big whites but even with one of these lenses (300/2.8 II, 400/2.8 II,500/4 II, 600/4 II) users report little difference with the 1.4x to the MkII converter.

I have had a MkII 1.4x for 7 or 8 years now (also had a couple of 400/5.6 lenses).BTW I am not too bothered about BIF but was just wondering about the AF accuracy and speed for perched birds. I guess the IQ should be reasonable good with the 5D3 as I have had good results even with the 7D (via live view AF).
Attached shot is with a 400/5.6 + 1.4x tc on the 7D (live view AF) will I get a lot better IQ if I use the combo on the 5D3 ( I have a 5D3 but sold the 400/5.6)

You won't get TTL with the RF602... It's purely manual. I can't comment on the 600RT but they work fine with both the 430EXII and 580EXII. :)

TTL doesnt work on the 603's they are manual triggers.

i have them along with a 600RT and they all work fine in manual mode
 
I have just got my 5D MKIII and looking for a flash.
Its not something ill use a lot and will be for portraits of the Grandchildren no doubt.
I dont want to spend a lot of money and will probably buy second hand but it must be Canon?

I'm not sure if you have access to the classified section yet but there's a secondhand Canon Flash 430ex ii for sale. He wants £155 but I'm sure you could push the price down!

Still deciding on my first flash. I want to stay with Canon for the quality, but the fact that you can get the Yongnuo 568 with wireless triggers (622) for about the same as the 430 EX II is swaying me that way.

The 568 comes in at about £140 last I checked.

Build quality is so much better than my 450D. It just feels 'quality'.

I've sorted out a few of the settings but there's a lot to learn, including where all the buttons are changing settings quickly. Lots of experimenting to do!

The fps was a shock too. I knew what the spec was but I obviously underestimated it.
 
Dreaming over the day I can finally get my hands on the gorgeous 5D MKIII. It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine...

1 week in and i am still blown away with my 5D MKIII and not regreting selling my Nikon D700 and lenses to move back to Canon. just a few observations

I am sure many of you have made the same observation but my 5D 3 came with a grip and when its fitted the camera seems too big and too heavy so till now its remained in the box.
Or is this just me?

I still dont know how i can get photos to write to my SD card and Movies to the CF card or if its even possible? if not what is the point of dual slots as the 5D writes to a SD card first if inserted it seems?

The layout of the controls are excellent and easy to use once you get use to them, the Af seemed complicated at first but now i seem to have got the hang of it. i love the screen and the onboard editing of Raw files and the built in HDR which works really well.
 
I find that the grip balances the camera better for me but I'm used to using a 1 series body and I do a lot of my photography with a 500mm on the front of it. I'd have it on just for the extra battery and convenience of using it in the portrait mode.

You can determine how it deals with the second memory card. For example you can have it write RAW to the CF and JPEG to the SD - in fact pretty much any combination of those two. You can also have them sequential (so it uses the second once the first is full) or just write the same file to both as a backup (beware on this one, because if you delete from one it won't delete from the other). Not sure you can specify a separate card for movies, but if haven't checked.

Really regret selling my grip for just this reason. Didn't think I'd need it. :-(

Thats why ill hang on to it as once i am more use to the camera and have a tele lens i might decide i will try it again, however ill need a new bag as its too big for my Lowepro toploader 75 with the grip on.

I dont think you can dedicate the CF card just for Movies which is a shame as CF cards are faster the SD.
 
I have a sd card just for jpegs and a cf card just for raw files but please tell me, when viewing after taking a card out and replacing it how do I switch between memory card 1 & 2 for viewing??

First off if you leave the camera door open when you take the card out it will keep the settings you have set in camera when you put the card back in.
You need to go to the Record func+card menu option to select which card you can view from IIR.
Check the manual ;-)

You can also switch viewing by using the quick menu.

Press Q. Navigate to the memory cards, and an arrow will point to the card it's viewing. To switch, use the wheel at the top of the camera.

I hardly touched my 60D form the day i got my MKIII. I couldn't bring myself to sell it though, my kids like using it, so i ended up trading for an even smaller 650D almost a year later.....and still dont use that lol.
 
Ordered the RS-80 today from Wex. Hopefully I'll get the chance to play with some extra long exposures over the weekend.
 
this might be posted in the wrong thread but hear goes
looking at getting a 5d mk111 which will be used for sport any body got any sample images and opinons about the 5d mk3
