Yeah did some more testing this morning and a nice snap to the lock on, also like the red illumination within the VF of lock onThe improved autofocus is a real boon!

busy as a bee by jeff and jan cohen, on FlickrI hadn't heard of the sigma until this weekend. It's not a lens I would use a lot as the zoom range is so short I'd probably use a prime instead if I wanted a fast lens. The IQ is very good though. I'd say it's not quite a punchy as my 24-70 f/2.8 mkii, but it's certainly no kit lens. For truely travelling light I rely on my trusty old TZ8...
The shot with the Sigma looks stunningly sharp and the colours look spot on too. I'm glad you posted that combo, as that it the lens I would be considering pairing with an 80D (but then it's not going to be much smaller (if any) than the 5D3 and 24-70, so I'd still be picking up the 1100D and 17-50 tamron :/ )
I wonder how well it would pair with the old Sigma 150-500.

I had a better day with my 80D today. Less OOF/soft shots. I think the 80D needs a slightly different touch to the 5Dmkiii. Not a big deal. I was in the Royal Festival hall this afternoon and although my 5D normally works fine I thought I'd risk the 80D to shoot some of the music acts that were on. I took my 135L but ended up using my 70-300L (again). Although it's a lot slower having IS meant I could use quite slow shutter speeds. I was very impressed with the high ISO raw files. Not as good as the 5D of course but noise levels realy aren't a problem these days. They clean up really well in LR.
I've still to put my Kenko x1.4 TC on, but I need a good reason to use that with the 80D.
The 80D is growing on me. I love using my 24-70 but do need something a bit wider than 24mm, and with IS. Just can't decide if I should go for the old STM 18-135, the new one, or the 15-85 (which I had before and loved it).
Agree that there isn't a great deal of weight and size saving with either the Sigma or 24-70, but overal the 80D and 24-70 does feel a bit easier on the shoulder strap.
@Jeff. Stunning shots. I too have had some luck with BIF, in fact more so than with my 5Dmkiii. I don't normally shoot that sort of thing but living by the river Thames there are a lot of Gulls flying around.

Sounds like a lens issue rather than the camera (as it's multiple cameras).I posted a shot earlier taken with the Sigma18-35 f/1.8 lens. Having tested it a bit ive now found its not working well on either the 80D, 650D or 5Dmkiii without a huge MFA at the wide end (not able to on the 650D of course).
Yes it doesDoes the 80d allow different MFA for wide and tele (like the 5d3)?[
flight of the intruder by jeff and jan cohen, on FlickrFor me it's the other way, i keep +1/3 stop dialled in permanently unless it's more challenging lighting circumstances.Nice shots guys. The 80D is certainly a very capable camera.
Does anyone feel it over exposes a bit? I suppose it's wrong to compare it to a 5Dmikiii but I'm finding I need to use a bite of - EV for most shots. In fact I've got it on permanently.

I've not experienced any over/under exposure issues with mine, I'll take a closer look though in future![]()
sigh I'd decided on a 7Dmk2 for my next GAS then canon go and do this *sob* .... (given that i already have a 50D, 70D, and 6D I'm now wondering about trading the 50 in for an 80 and waiting for the 7d3...)
100% for me as well. I can't say I've noticed the loss of wider FV that my 5Dmkiii has, but I have noticed I'm now shooting much lower and getting a bit more creative.Thing is, the main attraction for me is the crop sensor and the flip out screen, I kinda wish my 5D3 had one![]()
yep i think it tends to as well in decent light ,the sensor imho tends to be more akin to a nikon sensor in that respectNice shots guys. The 80D is certainly a very capable camera.
