Hi folks
I am considering buying a filter kit for some landscape type shots, the lens I will be using is the Sima 18-50mm, I also read that I would need a wide angle filter holder such as the Cokin Z Pro,what would you suggest ?

hi alan

i have the same lens[as you know],and use the cokin P filters without any vignetting problems.i used the same system on my 11-18,and only suffered vignetting below 14mm if my memory serves me right.i personally would recommend the cokin P or hi-tech system[based near merthyr apparently],and would suggest getting an ND 3 stop for milky waterfall shots,and an ND grad 2 stop for sunrise/sunset shots to balance the sky/foreground.these will get you started,and you can add as and when you want/need.you will also need a 72mm adapter ring,and a filter holder for whichever system you go for...

cokin Z pro and lee system filters are better,but also cost a damn sight more..but if you can afford it,go for it...
 
I can't comment on the filters them selves but I have an observation I can give.

I saw the Lee filter holder 1st hand for the first time on Friday and it's amazingly well made.

I own a small Cokin holder and the Lee is a much nicer design, using a proper catch design over a "bump" to wear with use. The Z pro looks like it might be a better design though.

The owner was using Hitech/Formatt filters which seemed to be good value, but did comment on colour cast once you stack 3 or more. While these are perfectly acceptable, and could be replaced with Lee once you know what you use/are suffering from casting.

This 5 minutes with the Lee has convinced me that Lee is the holder to get, even if it means a lot more saving.
 
Thanks both for your replies, Stan thanks for that info I read on the Warehouse Express site that the Cokin P system is not suitable for wide angle under 35mm.
