New tripod and head? I'm still using my Manfrotto 055MF4 and 393. Worked pretty well today I thought.

You mean the old AFI or AFS ones?
I think they get better each generation, but not by much. I think the VR version has VR and nano coating - and nothing else over the 400 2.8 AFS II. I'm not 100% though.

I just received a TC-20EII from mattyh - cheers mate.
Well I stuck it on the lens, and as I dont really have room to set up a tripod at home I tried it handheld.
This was shot through glass, handheld, at 800 f5.6 1/250 iso 400 with the lens swaying all over the place:
I'm impressed!
(Yes I know the WB is off!)
