Yes, that's right a whole weekend of F & C fun and frolics.
This was discussed on the Stratford meet and we basically want to keep it as simple as possible so there are only 2 choices of dates either :-

The weekend beginning Friday 2nd October or
The weekend beginning Friday 9th October.

As we intend (with the help of the lovely CMS) to book a cottage/hostel/large tent/castle for us all to stay in we need to know for sure if you are going to attend, once your in I would be very disappointed if you were to pull out as it would add cost to those who are going. So make your minds up and keep them made up ;).

I thought that we could do a mix of things to suit all abilities, some easy, flat walks, a boat trip and maybe a slightly more strenuous hill climb, nothing major but just to get a bit of height for those panoramic mountain views.

Ok, that's all for now, vote above and we can get this thing on. (y)

Cheers

Andy

Andy, might be better making it a multi-choice survey, I have no strong preference.

I want to vote for both but it won't let me :(

Any ideas on accommodation size and therefore rough individual cost assuming we fill it? I'm going to Florida on the 29th October so funds are tight but seriously tempted :0)

Cheers

Not really sure just yet mate, I would think maybe £20 to £30 per night but this is just a guess, it depends on where, when and how many.

I envision some sort of large F&C dormitory with bunks, not unlike the POW camp in the WWII sitcom Hogan's Heroes.

Cheers Andy. I take it your planning a two night stay?

I think so, but maybe 3 if anyone wants to stretch it out a bit. Depends on where we choose to a certain degree, some places may not let out for 2 nights.

While this has scope for hijinks aplenty, it's only fair that I point out that I snore like a b*****d. A really noisy one. I will, of course, take a single room option should one be available :)

I can see if we can get accommodation with a stable/sty, would this be more suitable? :D

Just a few ideas for things to do.

A very easy walk even from Keswick itself but if you drive around to the car park its a nearly flat walk and from the top the views are stunning and 360 degrees.

Flat as a pancake walk along the old Penrith to Keswick railway line.

All the way round the lake or hop off and walk back

Smallest of the Wainwright hills but quite a steep one. Lovely views toward Great Gable and in the other direction back to Derwent Water.

Just a few suggestions from me, all the following are fairly accessible and require little pre-trip training but participants should be aware that although getting to each destination should be reasonably straightforward and not too strenuous the return journey may significantly tougher.

Oh Nick, trust you to drag it down. I don't think these are the kind of things we'd be interested in. :naughty:

I could possibly be tempted by this. Google's telling me it's a 5 and a half hour drive each way (probably more like 6 and a half in my speedy new van ) but if it's over a few days then I could possibly do it. Might have to check my vaccinations are all up to date before I travel that far North though :p

You know it makes sense Carl.... Just bring plenty of tissues for the nosebleeds when you get out of the flatlands.

Interesting.

e2a I can't leave the dog for too long on his own, so thinking about a dog sitter or bring him along. But it makes taking snaps harder. Hmn...

If you want to bring yon pooch you will have to let me know well in advance as a lot of places won't accept hounds. Mmm makes me wonder if we need to check if they accept Nicks....:D

It could be like going to another country as a poll suggest oop north they want to become part of a bigger Scotland :D:D:D:D crazy polls why do they put them in newspapers

I would love to shoot the lakes, but, October to cold for me I think I will call Asha and have a bit of the South of France. Good luck guys you are true photographic champions.(y)

Will have to check the "official" calendar when I'm back in the office in a few weeks, but in principle I'm OK for either weekend.

If you haven't blown up the world it'll be great if you can

Anyone else interested? The lovely and fragrant Mrs Snap has had a look and there are quite a few options but should does need to have a final figure before she can gives us any examples.
Ta

Andy.

I'm interested but things are a bit up in the air at the moment right down to whether I'll be in the country at the time.

So don't count on me but closer to the time I might be able to fill a gap.

Can I do it without marching up any huge hills please? :D

Oh and for preference, something with a proper bed of sorts, don't mind what the roof is made of, though in October there is definite leaning towards something a little more solid than canvass

OK Steve, we'll put you on the back burner just in case.(y)

Don't worry it will have a proper bed and a proper roof. There are plenty of nice flat walks, boat trips, horse and cart rides and a beautiful via ferrata at Honister slate mine if you fancy a mountain view.... :D

Better count me in then :D I should perhaps post a warning now though, the last time I did the Lakes, it rained the day I got there, and snowed for the rest of the week

In fairness thogh, time before that was so hot we were paddling in windermere at midnight [on a campsite right next to water] just to cool down.

I'll be there
