Nikon D750 & D780

VSCO Portra 400 preset, with a couple of tweaks

I do like the Portra 400 VSCO but more and more lately I seem to be using my own concoctions. Here's a few family snaps that I don't normally share as I have so many of them..

After a christening yesterday, the light looked ok under a tree upon a hay bale, which turned out to be quite wet!

The International Space Station is visible in the evenings again. First pass over is from 19.58 till 20.02pm. Still be too light then but going to give it a go as there are clear skies :)

What sort of processing do you apply to get such a tidy living room! Mine always full of surrounding noise!

I apply the missus. Well, actually, it's my OCD that keeps it clean [emoji3] That spot is my favourite window light spot in the house.

I could post pics of my little girl all night. She certainly fuels my photo habit! I bet those with older children on here have thousands of snaps, she's certainly helped me improve my workflow.

I'm the same, since my boy is born in november last year i took 3500 pictures with my lumix lx100 and 3000 pictures with my D750 and i bet 50% are of the boy! I've became faster at processing, in a way less picky but also I put more stuff in the bin which before would just stay there unused. But still, i'm falling way behind in processing and have a few hundreds pictures to go through.

I seems to never put pictures up nowadays but i'll get a few for a change.

Also since being a dad, my chasing the northern light hobby has really take a big hit but i manage to go out once recently, it was a crap display but a good dark sky to test out my 20mm 1.8G which i find was good but very hard to get the focus spot on!

Thanks mate. ISO100 and only 15secs per exposure it was that light still.

You've made it look great then. I like the idea of the busy earth life below with all the lights and the relative loneliness of the ISS above.

Nice! He's a happy chappy! Love the aurora shot, well taken mate. Good to see a new pic poster!

How noisy in the VC on peoples copies of the 24-70? Can you hear it engage/disengage?

I kept my old D7000 when I bought my D750, still a very good camera. I have used it a few times since, usually with a second lens at bike races.
Considering you can pick up one for less than £250, it's an awesome camera. One plus (for me anyway) was it takes the same batteries and cards as the D750, just easier to manage when both are in action. Also the dual card slots are very welcome. £ for £ it's a very good camera and should serve me well (until I can afford a second D750)

However when I then picked up the D750 I realised what an awesome camera that is, the AF, massive viewfinder and general IQ is so awesome.

Wife is out tonight, so should be able to spend plenty of time sorting out the rest of my website, hopefully have the new one live tonight :)

Pen y Fan Star trail. I shot for 2 hours and 20 mins but due to cloud this was the only a 50 minute clear section of that.

And the full 2hours 20 mins with light polluted cloud passing through.

Why the "dotted lines " appearance of these?
I've never done star trails, but I'd like to have a go.
Also, as I'm asking dumb questions, why do the trails go down in the lower part of the frame, and upwards in the upper part.
( I did say I haven't done this sort of thing, so forgive me if it's obvious !!

Hi Gary if you mean the gaps in the trails (especially at the bottom) it is caused by clouds blocking out parts of the trail momentarily. There are also faint dotted lines (Straight) these are planes, tons of them above the brecons. The reason that the trails are going different ways is caused by the direction of the camera and it is facing the equitorial divide where the north and south stars are each rotating around there poles.

Ahh, I see. Thank you for that.
Normally the star trails I've seen tend to be circles (presumably rotating around the North star?)
It's nice to see something different.
Just one more question if I may?
Are these pics 1 x exposure of 2 hours +, or is that the total of lots of exposures stacked?
Thanks again.

Yes alot of people tend to do the Trails around Polaris the north star which gets the round trails around it. I have a few of those. You can do an exposure of two hours but the digital niose wouls be awful. So depending on the ambient light levels and LP (light Pollution) f2.8 30 secs iso 1600- 3200 as a starter manual everything including focus. Take 100 exposures and that would give you 50 minutes of the earth rotating. Take 300 exposures and that would give you 2 1/2 hours. Stack them all in the excellent free Starstax and your done. Well not really it's a little bit more technical than that, dew issues , the 100 shot limit of nikons etc etc. But get out there and give it a go

As mentioned before wife is using it more and more these days so its just an excuse for the 70-200 to have a matching friend!

So @sep9001 how are you finding the D750?

Not had a chance to use it properly David, been busy with kids duties. Have a mates engagement party next week so will hopefully give it a proper go then.

However don't think I will be able to capture the beautiful pictures all D750 users have been posting....[emoji4]

Is the website live? The one I get to from your 'signature' link is the new one?

Yep, still needs some tweaks, but I'm not getting much traffic this week and needed to get it live to finish some bits
