Nikon D7xxx owners thread

Your not wrong about prices fluctuating at HDEW!
I was looking at a lens on there last week, needed to wait until pay day and order over the weekend!
Looked last night ready to order,BANG gone up £100 same price as Amazon now!

Another D7000 owner checking in!

Current dilemna is whether to go Nikon 12-24 F4 or Tokina 11-16 F2.8 as my wide... currently using the 17-55mm 2.8 and merging shots when i need anything wider than the 17...

I've just been having the same dilema as you!

See link to my post http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=462411

I had decided on 11-16 based on price/performance,last week HDEW had it at £355,had to wait to get paid was £445 last night:bang: when i went on to order!:crying:

It's £419 at Panamoz!

Yes, I saw that as well, the previous price was £355 but I'm wondering if that was the version 1? Anyway, I bought my 16-85mm and chuffed to bits with it.

Think you may be correct, may have sold out of version I and switched to version II,but we don't need the internal focus motor!:bang:

Digitalrev have version I at £379 so an extra £24 still the best i can find!(y)

The Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 is a cracking wide angle and works well on the D7k.

Anyone think of a reason why prices would go up all of a sudden?

Chinese New Year or something? Can't think of any other even currently happening.

Pound to Yen rate?

Hmm, most of this stuff comes from Hong Kong. The pound against the HKD is currently strong. Although yeah, the yen could be affecting the rate from Japan to HK maybe?

Just ordered my first DLSR which is going to be the D7000! Should be here anytime between the 11th - 15th of February which is nice seeing the 13th is my 21st birthday (y)

Now to crack on with some serious accessory shopping.

Its a great camera to start with, it has been my 2nd dslr but the one I've used the most. One word of warning, have a think about what accessories you really need rather than what you think you may need if that makes sense. A bag is always a good start, one that you think is big enough now but that you can also grow into as your kit grows. A good reasonable zoom lens of around 17-70 mm and a longer focal length is a good start, probably enough to try lots of different types of photography before really specialising in a few areas. One lens i would recommend is the nikon 70-300 vr its a really great lens and can be had for around £250-300 used.

There is saying that is said on here quite a bit 'buy cheap, buy twice', this is advice I wish I had listened to went I first started. I've still got a cheap tripod, monopod, bag and a few screw on filters that I don't use now. I'm not saying go a spend nearly £1000 on the best tripod legs and head money can buy but think is a £30 tripod is really going to last you long? If you are sensible you can get some good buys that will last you years and you won't end up with lots of gear you don't use any more.

Have a look at your local library for books, everyone on here has their own favourites and could recommend a few to you. Maybe have a look at photography days, I'm going on my first one on Sunday, I wish I had gone one earlier. At least you have found this forum, there are plenty of very talented people to learn from on here.

You'll find a screw drive version on eBay for a lot less if you don't mind buying used. That's where I picked mine up. Great lens!

I know; there are lots of references to these suppliers in shopping. Just wondered if any of you Nikon cats have recently puschased a Nikon lens from the following - or should i Amazon it ? any thoughts comments warnings et al.

pro camera shop £1184 - less 3% for bank transfer

panamoz £1164

Hdew £1195.

and Amazon is £1239

NB - I bought the deluxe coffee mug lastweek

I have purchased from Panamoz and Pro Camera Shop in the last month. I used bank transfer with each. I preferred the experience with Panamoz and actually received the package from Hong Kong faster than the one from the UK. At those prices for me it would either be Panamoz if you have not included the 5% bank transfer or HDEW if it is a 3 year warranty included.

Thanks Nikoneers - decided for the sake of maybe less than £100 and the fact that the lens is (hopefully) a long term purchase went with Amazon , dispatched from and sold by them etc.

You won't regret it :)
It's a beautiful piece of optical engineering - I love using it on my D7000.

Just got a 2nd hand Tamron 17-50mm (Non VC) lens on this camera and love it... only paid £165 so I thought it was a good price.

Ahhh - Should I upgrade my D5000 to a D7000?

I keep coming to this thread seeing how much everyone loves the D7000 and think I need to come on board.

Sam

I think only you can really answer that one. What are you missing from the D5000 that you think the D7000 can give you? Having said that - I have found a huge difference from my old D3100 switching to the highly capable D7000.

If you are thinking about prices - the D7000 can be purchased brand new for pretty much half what it was when it first came out. Sure, it is getting towards the end of its run, but in my eyes it is still where the smart money is in the whole Nikon lineup.

Should I wait for the new d7x00??? Or get a 2 years old model???

There will be a huge price difference for a while, whatever arrives. Is 70-90% more money worth it to you?

24-70 Arrived safe and sound this AM . Overnight from Amazon didn't cost a thing as i now appear to belong to Amazon 'PRIME' Some things in life you just know are going to give good service - this i'm sure is one. The most solid and well made lens i've ever owned. Gave it a quick calibration test (two or three remote tripod shots wide open with speeedlight mounted atop camera). I just take a a few pics of the tv times focussing in on a several programs from different times of the day (nothing heavy for me and always been good enough to start - didn't need any AF tune so real life pics will show how it really performs).

Really looking forward to some time with this lens

Prime usually free for first month then annual charge of £50, depends how much you use Amazon I guess.

I to discovered I was a amazon prime customer when they took the money's from my bank knew nothing about it, I signed up to a free trial not realising lol

As for 24-70 I have had mine since Xmas in a word, magnificent

Cheers for the top notch response there Rob! All of this will be taken into account (y)

Hello All
Just bought a Nikon D7000 body for under £500, also at same time bought 3 lens, originally coming from a Fuji HS10 and also an old Zenith Photosnipper (which btw is in mint condidtion).

Seems like you guys are getting some real bargains with the latest d7000 prices!! Why doesn't the good glass come down in line

Only just found this thread, so thought I ought to jump on board :)

Considering I got my D7000 for around £950 when it first came out, it really is frustrating to see how much they've come down in price now!

As you said Michael, shame the lenses aren't getting any cheaper! If Nikon were to drop the prices of their 17-55mm or 24-70mm then I'd be VERY happy...

Any new technology will always be more when it first comes out. Think of it this way you have had 2 years worth of use of one of the best nikon dx camera during the last 2 years, and you still have many more years of use too.

The reason why glass doesn't come down in price so fast is because its not replaced with a new model every 1-2 years. The 17-55 was released a long time ago yet I can't see nikon ever updating it. A 17-55 or 24-70 would out last many camera bodies. It one of the reasons why people always advise to invest in good glass, firstly it improves image quality and its holds its value very well. The 17-55 has dropped s/h wise as is roughly £600-700 yet still over £1000 new, so prices have dropped slightly. It depends on if you don't mind going down the used route. I can see the d7000 giving many more good years of use.

Extra £200 or so more spread it out for 2 years, I don't think is too bad, if the spec and sensor is better. I think I will wait for the spec to come out first and make the decision...... I'm currently still using my old canon 350d:crying:

If only it were an extra £200. Try an extra £400.

Just ordered 2 x Sandisk 32gb 45mbs cards from Amazon themselves (not a shady dealer on there!!). I ran out on slot 1 (raw) today on my 8gb card so I thought I'd push the boat out and order 2 cards so there'll be less chance of that happening again.
Hope these are ok on the D7000!!

I use two 16gb versions of those in my D7k with RAW. I get about 460 shots per card and I haven't had any issues yet.
