OFFICIAL I HAVE A NEW (FILM RELATED) TOY THREAD!!

Glad it arrived safely. I'd save that E100 until it's bright and sunny (late spring, summer or if we get some snow and bright sunshine) as it seems to look a bit 'meh' in dull or overcast conditions. (y)

Thank you, that's not going to be loaded up as an every day film. It was on a good deal and I had a voucher code available to managed to pick it up for just £3.50, so would have been silly not to!

I can't take a photo of it yet but I placed an order for an Intrepid 8x10 Mk2 + lens board. Should be here by January-Feb, as much as I love my Deardorff it's a heavy bugger and the Intrepid comes in at half the weight. It'll be used for a project I'll hopefully be exhibiting in June.

It would indeed. :) Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad film.... it's just that I was probably expecting a great film when E100 was announced, but I personally felt that it fell a bit short of that. To be honest, I prefer the look of the Ektachrome I used in the late 70s and early 80s to this E100 relaunch film, but I'm glad Kodak decided to try, so people get some idea of how nice slide film used to be.

I really hope they'll carry on with their development and perhaps give us something that looks a bit more like early 80s Ektachrome... and if we're really lucky, with just a tinge of Kodachrome to it too.

Good luck with that!
Yes, I know, these days any mention of Kodachrome is seen as something akin to finding the Holly Grail, but surely saturated colours and a sunny 'look' should be achievable without almost total loss of shadow detail. After all, look what Kodak have achieved with Ektar 100, and that's 'only' a print film! There, I've said it... Kodachrome blasphemy! :runaway:

Thanks, I'm going to do a little experimenting with it, see what I can come up with. I've heard a lot of people saying similar, unfortunately I wasn't able to shoot with either the earlier Ektachrome or Kodachrome.

Ah Mr Badger you are forgetting whether we choose B\W, colour neg or pos it's the best film (in our opinion) for the job from Portraiture to scenery and for me knew when\where to get the best results from Kodachrome...... and also other films.
Its not always the fault of films for crappy results and could be inexperience or no hood for the lens or crappy lens and so on. Plenty of shots on the net using Kodachrome from pros.

Don't get me wrong, I often used Kodachrome when it was available and enjoyed the results, but just a little more shadow detail without blowing the highlights in contrasty light would have been useful. If Kodak ever considers a modern replacement then this is something they might consider, if that's possible without destroying the more endearing qualities the original film had, I'd still want pure inky blacks at the extreme end though. :)

Two new to me (and looking unused) 5x7 film holders arrived today. This should increase flexibility in film buying, as I have a number of 13x18 holders, but not many 5x7, and some film stockists only carry one of the two sizes.

Yes - there's a diffuser piece of plastic which sits against your light source, and the outermost layer/frame sits over that securely (there are keyed areas between the various bits of plastic). The cut out is the right size to display the negative with the rebate sandwiched between the bits of plastic.

Crap explanation, but I can grab some phone shots to demo when I'm home tonight?

sorry only just seen this, notifications on here are very hit and miss :/

No need for pics I get the idea. I'll look into this further after xmas, thanks for the heads up on the pixl wotsit

Variable pinhole?

Well... I've just been given a Durst M670 colour enlarger, complete with transformer, lens, neg carrier and timer. Its naffing huge compared to my dinky little black and white one.
Its only setup for 35mm at the moment, so I need to lay my hands on a mixing box and masks so I can print my 120 stuff.

All in all, I'm very very happy.

I'm being lazy to avoid retyping.

Another 4 of same from the same source, and look new except they came unboxed.

As members use their mobile to contact this site for many reasons:- Excellent buy at Argos if you want to get a newer model mobile and with EE...well I've just bought a Samsung A21s for £139, grab it while it's going as many Argos stores are out of stock.

Vanity, vanity, all is vanity......

I mentioned in another thread before Christmas that I had broken the ground glass in my MPP. I had been thinking about getting a fresnel for a while and the breakage prompted me to bite the bullet. This one from China via ebay was, according to the ebay listing, a bit too big for the MPP but it seemed like good value so I ordered it fully prepared to have to grind it down by 1mm or so. it arrived much quicker than expected and just by changing the mountings on the camera I was able to fit it with little effort so I got to try it out and ... Wow!

That looks really bright, especially in daylight. Was it expensive?

£80, which seemed not too painful, it's more than the Intrepid one but I sometimes use a 120 roll film back and this is marked up for all sizes. I was happily using it without a dark cloth in full sun, f5.6 lens

They're the same fresnels I use on my cameras, although I combine them with my own glass screen.

Spotted this design online for a 3D printed 110 size developing spiral to fit Jobo 1500 tanks. As I have 2 exposed 110 films sitting around (from years ago) and another unexposed thought I'd print one rather than spending a fortune on one for just 3 films. It has just finished its 5 hour long print. Will do a little fettling and see how well it fits together and on the Jobo core. Will give me something to do in Tier 4 lockdown that starts for us in 2 and a half hours.IMG_20201230_211910.jpg

Years ago I owned a similar style drop plate camera in quater plate format ( houghton butcher). It was large, heavy and cumbersome in use although the lens did offer a good sharp contrasty image.
i sold it due to the not so easily available filmand the fact that I was, at the time , more into roll film formats and cameras.
Since returning into LF as a ole format for my togging, I have had the occasional yearn to adopt a detective camera, basically the same as the houghton but 9x12 format and of course French / European.
Much as they can be found in excellent condition, they demand a hig price ( for a box camera!).
The majority that become available even at a moderate cost usually have faults or lack the plate holders.

Anyway I came across this one :

Dating back to circa 1900, it is for its age in vgc.

The lens is clean with no fungus.
The sliding lens protector is present and functions correctly.
The viewfinders are reasonable, a little breaking up of the mirror silver I think but perfectly usable and let’s be honest they were never great for seeing through back in the day anyway.
The diaphragm is smooth ( adjuster located above the lens) and offers apertures from f/8 to f/64 interestingly marked in two stop increments.
The shutter cocks and fires just fine using the arme key to cock it . The shutter release being located alongside with P and I modes.
Even the fastest shutter speed of 1/60 sounds to be spot on!!!
The shutter speeds can be made slower using the knob on the side which effectively slows the guillotine speed quite literally by a brake like system.
The half moon configuration of numbers relate to focus distance min 2.5 meters ( about 8ft) through to 20meters...... after that with the aperture stopped down and brings infinity into focus.
This mechanism is a tad stiff to operate but it is functional and may simply need cleaning.
There are two bubble levels, both intact although only one appears to work.
The other panel on the side near the rear of the camera with a key like attachment is the mechanism for dropping the exposed plate inside the camera.
There is a frame counter 1-12......unbelievable that it still works flawlessly after more than a century.
There are however only 8 plate holders remaining with this camera.
The interns need a good clean and the holders require treating before use of which I have suitable products so it shouldn’t be long before I get chance to try obtain an exposure on film, bah no, not film why I use film when the j lane glass plates are available in 9x12....... what better way to give this camera a new lease of life than to use glass plates like it was destined for well over a century ago :)

Amazing, looks like some fun there, Asha. And when you're done it'll probably be worth more than you paid for it!

Tbh the price I paid was well below the going rate for one in this condition.
Even if I was only to clean up the holders and interns, I could likely get close to 100% profit margin if I chose to sell it, not that I intend doing so ;)

Here’s hoping that it’s light tight..... if not, the problem usyally arises around the rear door so fairly easy to rectify.

It’ll keep me occupied ...... as if I don’t have enough to keep my busy :wideyed:

Since I had my cataracts fixed I've found it a struggle to operate some of my cameras. The Leica IIIA was the hardest because all the controls have tiny engravings. I got fed of up constantly having to switch between spectacles and no spectacles when I was using it (it was almost impossible to frame pictures with spectacles on). So just before Christmas I decided to sell it off and buy an alternative which was easier to operate. The Leica went for a decent price and at the same time I managed to sell off a Yashica Electro. With the proceeds I bought a Canon 7, Canon P and a couple of lenses. In terms of handling they are much more convenient than the Leica and they are very well made and solid. The lenses have reputation for being pretty good as well according to my research. I did keep my Leica 90mm Elmar to use with the Canon bodies.

I got the camera bodies and lenses from the ebay seller eljaybe2018, he seems to specialise more or less in Canon rangefinders if you look at his ebay shop. I've also ordered a 135mm Canon lens from MW Classics. I'm a bit worried because I haven't received it yet but the money has been taken from my Paypal account. I'll have to harass them next week as I ordered it about three weeks ago.

MW Classics have a reputation....sadly not a good one. You usually get what you ordered but not necessarily in the same year.

I'm still waiting for film holders ordered last summer from MW Classic. The last time I tried calling them, the phone was dead, so I assumed they were no longer in business.

Dig this though, I ordered last year, 2020, and Andysnap said it would arrive in the next year. Is it not time for it to arrive?

On another planet, where do MW Classics get all there gear. It's a constantly changing portfolio of interesting, but perhaps not accurately described, items.

You will get a response on the mobile number, the land line, as you say, is dead.

The dropdown for Newly Arrived suggests it was updated yesterday Stephen, but I guess that might be automatic? https://www.mwclassic.com/product-category/newly-arrived/

Don't you lot understand it's all due to THAT bug! :runaway::ROFLMAO:
